AZBL
Alright, so this is my first time on here. I'll get right to the point though. I've been scouring craigslist for a cheap manual car to learn to work on and learn manual with. I came across a 1974 B210 for sale but in need of restoration. Owner says it's been sitting for years. Now I don't have much experince but I'm always willing to learn when it comes to things I'm interested in. In your opinion, is this to ambitious of a project? It seems like it would be for someone like me, but just seemed like something interesting and it doesn't hurt to ask for some opinions. I'll attach a copy of the ad below. If you need any other info, since this seems a bit vague, just ask and let me know. Thanks for any responses! Car link: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/6083416302.html Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Can it be driven???? If not pass by quickly. If you can't drive it you can't know if the engine runs well, does it restart, does it blow bule smoke, does it accelerate alright, does it over heat? if the steering is ok, if suspension parts are broken, does the transmission shift or make noises, does it vibrate, does the rear end make noises? does the exhaust need replacing, lights and electrical work, does the alternator charge the battery? Brakes? emergency brake? leaks? You could end up needing way more than this to get it on the road. Quote Link to comment
KELMO
I would say at $975.00 for a car that has not run in years, that is a bit much to ask. Also consider the definition of " has been sitting for years". How many is that? When I say " oh that hasn't run in years" I mean 2 or 3....when someone else says it, it could mean 10 or 20. If that trans is a 5spd, that car MAY be worth 300-400......MAYBE. Like Mike said, take a pass if she don't run. I have seen "A" motors (like the one this car has) turn and fire after more than 10years of sitting. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
April '76 was the first 5 speed for the B-210 ..... I suppose someone might have swapped one in but otherwise just a 4 speed. I don't think this is the car you want to learn on. Look for a runner, even if twice that price. Quote Link to comment
Cosmonaut
^^Agreed, this from a Datsun B210 fanatic. Quote Link to comment
AZBL
Okay, so after some further research, I found this B210 Honeybee on Ebay. Its an auction and wouldn't bid to high (also in North Carolina, so I'd have to ship it if I even won the auction). After reading the ad, does this one sound any better compared to the craigslist one before? My mother had a B210 Honeybee as her first car and she always said she'd love to have it again, this could be the chance for me to get it and fix it up for her and me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-Datsun-B210-Honey-Bee-/152501832699?hash=item2381d14bfb:g:XJgAAOSw~CFY57HN&vxp=mtrThanks for the help thus far everyone!
