captain720
Is your plan to build the white truck? Yes it is, I am going to put a good motor and 5 speed in it along with my aluminum rad and other goodies. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
The 84 bed you have on the white one is my favorite. Quote Link to comment
captain720
Has any one replaced these center driveshaft bearings before? I think I pushed it on to far or something as it does not spin freely and I don't think I can pull it back at all with out literally destroying it. 1 Quote Link to comment
captain720
How freely is it supposed to spin? It turns but it requires quite a bit of effort. 1 Quote Link to comment
captain720
Has any one (besides wayno) towed a 720 with a 720? On a dolly. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I towed with my 86 720 King Cab a 2007 Titan 4x4 in Nevada with a chain. Had a lot of stares from people when we were on I80 West bound from Elko Nevada to Carlin Nevada. It is about 25 miles between the two towns. 1 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
The thing is that the towing vehicle has to be HEAVIER than the vehicle being towed. How far are you going tow? Interstate or back roads? 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
The thing is that the towing vehicle has to be HEAVIER than the vehicle being towed. Only in theory! In life you do what you have to do and hope you live and do not kill or mame any one else. Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
As a truck driver, I have maimed and offer cautious advice to those that chose to endeavor to tow. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Sorry to hear someone was hurt. Always best to err on the side of caution. 1 Quote Link to comment
bottomwatcher
It's not the pulling, it's the stopping. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I've flat towed a 720 with another 720 using a tow bar a couple times. Its a bit sketchy so i try to stay off trafficy roads, but i have had multiple successes. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Has any one (besides wayno) towed a 720 with a 720? On a dolly. If you are towiing it on a dolly just go slow you should be fine. Do not try to tow it from the bumper it will fold up on you when you stop. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Charlie is right. My tow bar attaches to the frame right up front under the bumper. But on a dolly it shouldn't matter 1 Quote Link to comment
captain720
Thanks guys! This time I just used a 3/4 ton Detroit Diesel suburban 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
That might not be big enough to dolly a 720 with! LOL 1 Quote Link to comment
captain720
Is there a right up on removing dash to get to wiring harness? Also how do you get these pedals out? It looks like you have to take half the truck apart am I missing something here? 1 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
In the FSM in the body section. Not that hard. I unscrewed the speedo cable from the transfer case to make guage cluster removal easier. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
If the truck has tilt column tilt it down. If no tilt drop the bottom steering column bolts to let the column move down. Then pull speedometer cable from the back of the dash. Disconnect the blue and white wiring connectors just above the fuse box. There are bolts on each side of the dash open doors to see and get access to them. There are 3 bolts on top of the dash by the windshield. There is 1 bolt inside the glove box. All these bolts are Phillip or 10mm. The 3 bolts by the windshield are easiest done with a 10mm ratchet wrench, unless the windshield is out. 1 Quote Link to comment

captain720
Ok just to let everyone know I have been taking apart the white truck and am building it now, potentially at the expense of the blue truck. The blue truck was nice and gave me some fun times but the bed is shot and I don't want to deal with the other smallish rust spots when I have this nice 84 body. I just picked up some AC parts and an engine and trans from Charlie as I am down here for work. 2 Quote Link to comment
