Hey everyone! I'm new around here and not sure where to find the info I'm looking for but I'm assuming someone can direct me. My clutch has went out and I have tried to get 3 separate clutch kits in to replace it and the pressure plate in all the new kits I'm trying to use are about 3/4" bigger than the original I'm taking out. Can anyone assist me with this? Thanks!

Correct. The '74 620 L18 had a 5 bolt flywheel that took a 225mm clutch. If the clutches you are getting are too large then someone swapped a L16 or a 200mm flywheel on it.

Order the clutch for a '72 521 and it should fit.  The 200mm is almost 1" smaller diameter or 1/2" smaller all the way around than the 225mm

Sounds like you want the 200mm kit, not the 225mm kit. I'm not sure where you are buying your clutches, but you will be able to find exactly what you want from rockauto.com

Thanks Draker! The kit i have currently is from rock auto, I just got the 74 clutch kit. If that gives you an understanding of exactly which kit I have in my possession now that isn't the same size as the one we are taking out

Ok, I went into rock auto, under what vehicle clutch kit i needed and it came up with 4 options. One from Valeo, AMS Automotive, Sachs, and Brute Power. Do you know if there is any difference between these or which you would recommend me going with? Thanks again, I'm new to this forum and to mechanical maintenance in general, i really appreciate the help!

I can't comment on those as I have zero experience. Clutches tend to be made by only a few manufacturers world wide and just the box and labels are different. Exedy name seems to come up a lot. Anything made in Japan. Try Nissan I think around $100 for the PP and another $100 for the disc. Good after market quality tend to be about 1/2 to 3/4 of that amount.

If replacing the clutch always replace the throw out bearing about $15. It's one of those cheap parts that are a lot of trouble to get at and replace later.
