The biggest thing you need is the correct lseries bellhousing... the z24 is a different bellhousing I believe,.. did you mean a 240z? That is the same bellhousing , but a longer transmission..

the 63 series 4spd Is really the correct one for an l16 for an easy swap..

Dont know about the j16 transmission... are you hoping for a 5spd or looking for a 4spd?

I may have a 4spd I'm willing to part with, send me a pm if it's something your interest in, I bought it as a spare but I am doing a 5spd swap so I don't really need two 4spds in my basement....

i want to know if i can use a z24 or a j16 transmission with an l16.

the l16 come with an automatic transmission but i want a manual one , that's why i want to swap it

You should completely fill out your profile with year of vehicle and what city you are near.

The J series won't work, period.

The Z24 (if you mean from a 720 truck) is a 5 speed and will actually bolt up but won't fit right. As Crash has mentioned you really need the front case from a 71B 4 or 5 speed swapped onto it. This will allow it to work properly on an L series engine like the L16. The Z24 transmissions came in two lengths, 26" exactly the same as you 510 and also 31.5" long or needing to have your 510 driveshaft shortened by this amount. Either way the transmission mount will need modifying too. I think they are still being sold for this 71B swap.

You will also need the brake and clutch pedals... usually the entire pedal box that holds them is the easiest way to swap them

A master cylinder, a matching slave cylinder and the hard and soft hydraulic lines between them.

The slave may or may not come with the transmission so you may need to source it, it's push rod, the clutch arm and dust boot, the release bearing collar and a new release bearing.

You will need a pilot bushing for the end of the crankshaft (automatics don't use them.

The transmission may or may not come with a shifter, knob and rubber dust boot.

thanks for the replies.

i can give you a little bit more information if that helps. I have a 1969 datsun 1600 made in mexico, that's mean it came with a j16 engine and leaf spring rear suspension .Now i have acces to a datsun 160j wagon(aka violet) that has an l16(correct me if i'm wrong) with an automathic transmission.I don't want the transmission of the wagon , only the engine .

my question is , can i take the automatic transmission bell house of the wagon and use it with another manual transmission like a z24 for example, or even the one that came with my datsun.

that's my datsun

The L16 can be fitted into the 510 but nothing on the automatic will help you with a Z24 transmission.

As you can see the L16 is leaning over to the right side of the car about 12 degrees. The Z24 engine is almost an equal amount of lean to the left side. If you mate the Z series transmission to the L16 it will have to rotate over to the right side about 20 degrees. The shifter will be pointing into the passenger's seat cushion.

You can try this if you open up the hole in the floor and bend the shifter to the left. You will need to make a transmission mount that properly supports this leaning transmission but it should work. You still need to shorten the driveshaft and graft the L16 exhaust pipe on.

L16 would be far far and away stronger for future performance up grades and there are more performance parts for it. The J series has only 3 main bearings. The L series has 5 and would support the Washington Monument.
