Mmmmkayyyyy.

Unless this is something specific to Murican, South African or Mexican 510's, in nearly 32 years of owning these beasties I have never seen a 510 (Datsun 1600 downunder) have a chassis number that starts with anything but P510.

I have seen a number of imported two door cars here, all with the P510 prefix.

Has it been restamped?

And yeh, whhat Ko said; post a pic.

In North America there were L510s and PL510 with P for the L16 engine and L for left hand drive. The L510 was likely the base L14 or L13 engine and needs no prefix for this.

As he says it is a RHD it is likely different is some respects. RHD would not need the L prefix.

Likely the sedan was P510 and the wagon WP510. No way would it be stamped at the factory P5L0

The JDM Coupe 510 was KP510 for the L16SSS and KH510 for the L18SSS engine, with K for Coupe and H for the larger option L18

P510-240727 This is just the 240,727th one made.

The numeral 1 and the lower case letter l (ell) are too similar. If this was stamped on an easily gotten engine tag maybe it was transposed. Which calls into question if this is actually an import JDM car or one that was converted.

In addition to the stamping on the strut tower (and on the firewall) some 510's down here had an additional tag with the VIN number on it which was rivited to the inner guard (fender) on the passenger (Murican drivers side) of the vehicle.
