If it's a matter of not being able to drive the truck then it's worth it.... depends on what it would take to get the l20 running..

A set of rings should be cheap enough.... you maybe not get full life out it but I bet it will last long enough to get that l20 done.. a running driving truck keeps the motivation up, and empty engine bay does not and if you have no intentions of keeping the l16 I wouldn't invest any more than a ring set... spend the money on the l20....

Yeah. Is it worth putting more money into an L16.

 

Another thing to consider is I only have a 4 spd, so how much benefit will I really get with an L20?

 

I would take an L20B w/4 speed over an L16 w/4 speed anyday.

It's L20B. An L20 is a six cylinder.

 

An L20B will pull harder and be faster in every gear with less effort. It's true what Carol Shelby said 60 years ago... "There is no replacement for displacement."

 

Five speeds don't make you faster.
