Not quite a barn find, but close....

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, this is my 4th Datsun, second 510. My first Datsun was a 510 2 door. Found this Goon sitting in Fiddletown, CA. Belonged to a customer of mine. Her husband used it for hauling meat for his meat cutting business. He parked it in 2005 after retiring, then died in 2012. I asked if it was for sale and she and her daughter were happy to sell.

I originally was going to just get it running then sell it, but I might hold onto it for awhile. The original L16 had been swapped out for a L20B at some point. Everything else except the seats are original.

The tires, brakes, and clutch hydraulics were all shot.

I ordered new tires and wheels for it immediately, Konig Rewinds 15x7 wearing Nitto 205/50/15 tires.

I also scored some 280zx front strut assemblies from a parted out 1982. Used some T3 sleeves and hat and converted to coilover using some springs from Summit 175 in/lbs.

I also ordered a brand new Weber DGV carburetor kit, electronic ignition kit, plugs, wires, 280z master brake cylinder, stock clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, etc. All fluids are getting replaced too, just for good measure.

Anyway....progress so far. Hope to get it running again this weekend...if the rain stops for more than 10 mins.

I don't see a way to upload pics.....unless I am missing something.

Not interested in loading pics to a 3rd party site and linking them here.

Well thanks for sharing the story, I guess.

You bet.

I guess I don't understand why a message board in 2017 doesn't have the ability to host/upload pics. I am sure many, myself included, would be more than willing to pay for an annual membership fee in order to fund the ability to upland pics, even in a reduced fashion, like 200kb or something.

Food for thought.

Bandwidth, storage, backups... all very expensive.

Ratsun members, cheapest mofo's around. If they wanted to get money they could run Ads on the board.. but they take pride in NOT doing that. Plus photobucket is so easy.. photo's auto upload there from your phone.

That's a beauty. Looks like he took pretty good care of it.

I love the color and would bet that a little elbow grease will make a jewel out of that paint.

Is there a manual or no choke on that Weber ??

Congrats on a find like that !!!

You might be right on buffing some of the paint, but it's pretty much gone on the roof with some minor surface rust. The car is cancer free though.

It's a manual choke on the DGV. Bought it in a kit from Redline. Didn't want the mess with a used carb, rebuilding it, etc.

Damn, that's in my neck of the woods, too bad I didn't come across it. Those rewinds look good...for a knockoff...of a knockoff.

It was well hidden in the country. No cell service or a traffic light for 50 miles.

Discount Tire had a killer deal on wheels and tires mounted and balanced for Presidents Day. I knew I couldn't run 13's with the 280zx brakes, so it suited my needs.

the wheels look great on the dirty paint

congrats on the find

I kinda like the patina myself actually.

Oh look, now it's worth reading.

I'm running 13s that came off a 280zx so you could but as said above, what you have looks nice.

I read on here it wasn't possible, oh well.
