"DatLo" Ko's 620 KC build

Recommended Posts

Did more work, fixed the roof in front to the best of my ability, it was quite a challenge since the metal was so punished, then tap welded the rest of the areas where the cut was made by them teens....

Need to wrap it up and start applying duraglas to the roof

Ben Lillard stopped by the shop today to show Al and test out the fitments of a couple prototype items for a 620, didn't get a pic of the stainless steel door card....Sorry....but had to take oics of this item I'll be purchasing

Laser ingraved "Datsun" pictures don't do it any justice, that piece is fenomenal...

Did several more tac welds this morning for good measure, and applied the first layer of duraglas....

Gotta let it cure for about 48 hrs before sanding and then applying one more coat, that initial coat took 1/2 gallon but it is doing its job making the roof more rigid and leveling it out.

I'm glad it's starting to come together looking more like a truck now...

Hopefully next weekend I'll get to applying the final coat of duraglas and start working on the rocker panels while the duraglas on the roof is curing, unfortunately I have to hit the road tomorrow or else I would do so then :(

is it waterproof?

It's essentially bondo impregnated with fiber glass strands for strength. Neither are waterproof. Quality body filler will allow for some stretch without cracking. But in some cases you aren't looking for flex at all or need to fill some gaps.

That's my understanding at least. I am by no means a body guy.

I wonder if those are the ones I ordered. He shipped them out to me on March 13. I  haven't installed them yet, but they look great!

I was attempting to repair the originals..... not sure if it's going to be worth the effort

I was going to attempt it too, but I changed my mind when those stainless were brought in for test fit

While you may be able to clean up and kind of straighten the stock aluminum ones, the stainless ones greatly improve the look of the sill area and, in my opinion, even look far better than brand new OE plates.

This ^ $85 is a bargain compared to the hours you'll put in fixing the OEM ones plus the finished product!

Man that 620 nexr to yours in the pictures looks familiar mang

Haha, ya HOGIE wanted me buy it since it was a WAY better starting point than this one was, but I really wanted to save this thing from ending up scrapped since no one wanted to touch it due to the roof damage, I've noticed the KC market values rise all while less of them are popping up in the past couple years, so I figured why not!

Another day of blocking and body filling, I'm really happy the roof is starting to take shape now, one layer of duraglas and body filler the rest of the way, I'm working it from front to back.....

I also went for another batch of duraglas while I was giving my arms a break from blocking the roof, I made two patches for the sides (sorry didn't take oics of them, I will next week) and I also applied it over the tac welds I made inside the cab to hide them.....

Continued to block and fill the roof....

Got home, showered and got around to opening the box Steve sent me with the KA mounts, THANK YOU FOR THE RATSUN STICKER, STEVE!!!!

Then I took pics of other stuff I've received in the past couple weeks for the truck...

I'm very impressed with the quality of these Thai parts, I recommend them to anyone that can't afford OEM lights, they are very nice!

Hopefully next weekend I'll have more updates!
