datsunfreak
A series goodies, Who can say no to that? If you're just going to junk it, send it all my way I'll toss it all in a box for you. I also have a gas door if you want it/don't take Kelmo up on his offer. I also have a few interior pieces from my sedan if you need anything, although I don't remember the colour or condition, might get lucky. I think Kelmo has me covered. Only thing interior I would probably want/need right now is a rear set upper. Dash is going bye-bye, and I'll probably make some door panels if I can't find a nice set. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Had a free evening, so I got to work on stripping the engine bay... Grill and headlight doors out, condenser out, all wiring and plumbing removed from the engine bay... Frees up a spare dizzy too... Engine is ready to come out now. Hoping to get that done on Saturday... 2 Quote Link to comment

LOL! Please don't mention this car... It was on craigslist for $600. I called the owner 15 minutes after he listed it, went to look at it 45 minutes later, and it sold before I got there. :crying: And the butthole that bought it did nothing but rub out the paint and then listed it two days later at $3000. Quote Link to comment
Lonestar
Hey John, you going to weld up any holes in the engine bay? I wanna see which ones so I can clean mine up before I put the engine back in it. Quote Link to comment
afracer
Did it have an AC compressor and bracketry on it? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Did it have an AC compressor and bracketry on it? Yes, but it's a York piston compressor (garbage), not a Nissan rotary compressor (good). This car did not come with the nice dealer-installed kit that some had. It was a cobbled-together mess. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Hey John, you going to weld up any holes in the engine bay? Yes, probably all of them. Quote Link to comment

Anyway, you mentioned the dash is coming out. What's your plan for that, curious because I happened to see a carbon fiber dash for one over here. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Anyway, you mentioned the dash is coming out. What's your plan for that 1. A 1200 dash is a really good fit in a B210/B310. 2. A 1200 dash is really easy to turn into a flat steel dash, if I so choose. 3. We have two extra 1200 dashes. ^_^ 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Meant to pull the engine out, but decided more de(con)struction was in order instead... Of note, there seems to be some stuff missing already... Umm... More sins/kludges of the previous owner... It was a pain in the butt, but I will not be defeated... Interesting side note: on the B110 and B210 the dash is sandwiched between the column and column support bracket. On a B310, the support bracket is sandwiched between the column and dash. So the captured nuts are in the dash, not in the support. This is bad... ^_^ Went to the spare bolt bin and found some nuts to hold the column up, and here's where we ended. All wiring now removed except the tail lights, door pin switch and dome light... I think the car lost maybe 50 pounds today... In fact, I'd swear it's an inch higher now than when I started... ^_^ Hopefully next time the engine will come out, and then it's time for a good bath... 2 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Big ups to my buddy Kelmo for the gas door! Now just need to find a left fender... And maybe a left door... 2 Quote Link to comment
KELMO
Too bad a 4DR wouldn't fit......at least I am pretty sure. Currently don't have access to my catalog. Quote Link to comment

KELMO
I was thinking door but thought it a long shot. The fender I have has a hole for a side marker instead of a notch like yours. Quote Link to comment
KEWL510
What are the specs on those wheels and tires? And where can I get some? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
The fender I have has a hole for a side marker instead of a notch like yours. That means it's for a '79. Completely different front end on those. ;) Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
What are the specs on those wheels and tires? And where can I get some Wheels are 14x7 -12 Bassett Racing wheels. I got mine from Jeg's. Tires are 165/55-14 Federal Formoza FD1. I bought them from Tires-Easy, but you can also get them on ebay. I originally bough them for my 1200 coupe, but have since switched to the exact same wheel in a 14x8 -12 with 185/50-14 tires (wanted a wider footprint). If I keep these on the 210 (which is possible) I will probably switch to a 185/55-14 to better suit the bigger 210. But who knows... 2 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Been reading this build thread and really digging how the grey and black combo suits a squarish 80s car... 2 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Stared looking for a place in the storage room to put my new gas door where I wouldn't lose it, then it hit me... ^_^ Looking at the car I realized it wasn't racecar enough, so I yanked out the column... Then took off the ignition switch. This is much easier on the bench because you can use a Dremel to cut a slot in the screws not meant to come out, then they spin right out... Then I went to Smiley's and got one of these... As per usual, the hole in the quick release bit is too big for the column... So how we normally fix that is, we take the hexagonal nut and make it round... Then using the drill press we machine out the center of the quick release a bit... Then hammer the nut into it... Then spin it on... Then beg your buddy to weld it on for you... Did a bit of filing on the tip to round it off a bit. Then painted the tip, and put a little grease on the rest. Resist the urge to paint the rest, because it just makes it hard to get the steering wheel on later, and when you do it scratches all the paint off anyway... ^_^ Column bolted back in, wheel popped on, and it seems to be on there straight to boot. Since the plan all along was to do a basic flat steel dash, I thought we'd play around with the stock one a bit. I have a 1200 dash to use (easier to make flat), but we figured why not see if we can make this one work, since it bolts right in and all... :P Blown part... 14 screws later (wtf?) and the pad is off... Damn shame as the pad isn't half bad... Dash is a very odd shape but I noticed the basic structure is close to flat. So out came the cut off wheel... Now with all the brackets and bits cut off, it's much closer to flat... We have a few ideas on how to finish it out, so stay tuned... Hey, worst case I toss it in the bin and use a 1200 dash, so... 4 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
My college girlfriend had a 2-door notch back 210. This was just as I was getting into Datsuns in the late '80s. Sometimes wish I'd hung on to that one. Fun to drive and mess around under the hood... and the car was kinda nice too. 5 Quote Link to comment
