Trailer plug.

Anyone out there get silly enough try installing a 4plug trailer plug to a 1985 720 without buying the expensive powered adapter? Just finished repairing frame, and fabricating new rear differential breather tube (dealer says new one has to come from Japan $30) and in process of repairing floor at right front cab mount.

At the back of the truck is a wiring connector for all the rear lights. I cut an extra one of those out at a junkyard.

 

then rebuilt that into a T that would plug in to that factory connection on my truck. I built the trailer wiring in to that. Plug and play.

Reverse lamps you can skip

 

1/ Ground .......................................................... Black

2/ License/side marker and running tail lights..... Red/Yellow

3/ Left flasher and brake lamp ........................... Green/Red

4/ Right flasher and brake lamp ......................... Green/Black

Must be American because my parts store plug has white ground, then a yellow, a green and a brown. Can probably extrapolate from your description. Used 3way connectors for tie ins and shrinkwrapping the hell out of everything. Will let you know how it works. Ultimate plan (funding permitting) is to make it into a dually decker.

The wiring colors Mike, who is Canadian BTW, gave you are for the wires you need to tap into on the truck, you are describing the wiring colors of the trailer harness.

 

And to help there...

 

Yellow = Left turn - connect to Green/Red on the truck

Green = Right turn  - connect to Green/Black on the truck

Brown = running lights - connect to Red/Yellow on the truck

 

The brown wire on the trailer harness will either need to be shared or have 2 wires coming out of the plug, it's one for each side and it doesn't matter which one goes to what side.

I think for trailer lights white is ground and black is 12v like for a winch or something ,,, i'm to lazy to research as it's 12 am ,, but i'm pretty sure.

Trailer lights utilize the same style of chassis ground as most vehicle lights, that's why the white wire is connected to chassis on the tow vehicle side and then to frame on the trailer side.  12v usually starts being added into the larger plugs for use with trailer brake activation.   Then in some of the larger plugs there is an output for charging or use in slide in campers.

 

Pretty sure the OP was only describing the standard "flat 4" style of plug.
