Limited slip or locker?

Is this the only H190 LSD kit available?

I have a call in to Nismo about the Detroit Locker availability and price.  A mini-spool would be perfect for what I need.  If someone like Yukon Gear made them, would anyone else want them so they can stop welding up diffs?

For the price of tooling up, I could buy a 9", but someone may have a product that can be modified to fit.

They do a nice job of hiding the mechanism in a CNC housing.  Spring loaded with clutches.  I'd like to see a simple heat treated axle coupler for a full locker.  I wish I had a spare diff around to play with.

Also known as phantom grip. They do technically work, they just create excessive wear.

Someone started messing with an H233 clutch lsd carrier trying to fit it to an h190. They could machine it down far enough to fit, but the 190 is 29 spline and the 233 is 31 or 33 spline depending on year and application. They never overcame that hurdle.

What rear gears are you going to be using?

Thanks.  I wasn't searching for "phantom grip."  Lots of failure stories, no proof that I could find, until now.  The theory makes sense though.  Since I have custom made wheels for the 6 lug axles, I need a solution that uses those, and at the stock width or a little narrower.  We'll see what Nismo says about a DL unit in stock.  I think we have the 4.375 gears for now.  We may want a 4.11 set too if I can find one.  Anyone have spares lying around to sell?  I know - use the classifieds for that...

The '89-'93 D21 Hardbody had an H-190 LSD option. The H-190 was only available on the 2wd 4 cylinder truck and should have a stamp sized orange LSD sticker on the 'bum' of the differential. Good luck in the wrecking yard lottery finding one. They came it 3.90 and lower ratios so you would have to swap the C&P into them.

Welding is the cheapest option, but be sure to check the carrier for runout after welding, and true it up if needed.

A 9" is probably your best option though. The availability of aftermarket parts is incredible. I've had complete rear axles (with diff) built for about $1700. Those are from Currie.

There are tricks to revitalizing a worn out OEM LSD unit. Free tricks requiring only labor.

Yes I found a H190 LSD in a hardbody a few years ago, it has 350 gears, I didn't actually believe it was an H190 until I installed it in a 620 rear end housing across the row from the hardbody, I got all happy when the 620 axle dropped right in.

The reason I asked what gearing you were looking for is because I have a 411 geared H190 Detroit Locker I am not using, if your interested PM me.

The earlier 520/521 diff is aluminum

As were the earlier 620s.

My '73 had an aluminum carrier.

I would have kept it, but the newer H190 LSD was a tad to wide, so I had to go to the iron carrier, or do a shit load of machine work.
