SRB87
So the guy I got my 85 720 4X4 put 33 inch tires on it and way to wide. Looking to go back down closer to stock so I can use 4th or 5th gear. Any idea of what size works and looks the best? Quote Link to comment
MaxChlan
What size rim and tire are currently on? Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
If it has 33-12.50-15s, it may look funny if you go smaller than 31-10.50-15. There are odd sizes like 31-8.00-15 or 29-8.00-15, but they are hard to find in stock and often more expensive than the "normal" 31s. I had 29s on my hardbody but replaced them with 31-10.50s due to the larger tire being less expensive and looking better. Couldn't say much about the gearing issue you have because I had a vg30. datzenmike
Stock 4x4 height is P215/75R15 or 27.7" tall and about 8.5" wide. If wanting maximum height, 29" tall on a 4x4 will work with only minor rubbing on turns. Quote Link to comment
trjerm
I've got 235/75/15 on Toyota Tacoma rims on mine and only minor rubbing at full lock, but 5th gear is good for going down hill or long flats only! Quote Link to comment
SRB87
I have 33x12.5/15 now. Way to big for what I need Quote Link to comment
MaxChlan
I'm a big fan of the stock ride height. I've been running 205/75r15 winter tires, and I haven't had any issues. If you have 15 inch rims, my recommendation is to just go with the stock wheel size if you're going to be using it as a daily. Quote Link to comment

Yes that is what I am going for stock = much better ride and not so harsh on front end Quote Link to comment
MaxChlan
Then by all means do that! If you want a good look at what the stock ride height is, see my winter pictures here. Seeing that you live in NM, you won't have to worry about snow tires or anything like that, so I would go with a nicer set of all seasons. From there it's just a matter of doing some research on which brands carry 215/75r15 tires, and picking a brand you think is the best quality. Quote Link to comment
84720FourWheel
I run 235/75r15s They are a super common size, stock for xj Cherokees. They also look beefier than the 215s. Minor rubbing, taps the mud flap at full lock. Quote Link to comment
Knugcab
I run Cooper STT 31x10,5x15 on my 1985 diesel 4x4 and they do work well. Quote Link to comment
SRB87
I put on Isuzu rodeo rims with 245 75 16 tires on the truck works great no rubs! Quote Link to comment
