Is a 75 610 2dr with no drive train & with supposedly no rust worth $400? I have a line on one & going to try to get it for $300. Im in Cali so it would be perfect for a swap being 1975. If I get it, I'll post up some pics. Trying to add to the Datsun family. :)

If just the engine and transmission/driveshaft but may include the differential and half shafts. Make a list of what's missing because this will need to be replaced.

If 'just a rolling body' is it in good shape? All electrical wiring complete and un-molested? Can you put a battery in it and check the lighting for problems? Heater, wipers, signals all work? Interior complete and in good shape, dash not cracked, seats, headliner? All glass in good shape?

As the car can't be driven you cannot assess the suspension, steering or brakes so these are a big unknown. You could look for missing or damaged components. Modified or 'upgraded' brakes or suspension are a really BIG unknown as you don't know how well or safe it was done..

So with these questions answered is it worth $300??? Or is it a $300 car that needs $3,000 to be on the road??

Those are the big questions Datzenmike! I almost couldn't sleep thinking about those same questions... we all hope for that great score but these days those are far & slim. I have my finger & toes crossed! I'm going to check it out later today when the owner gets off of work. Hopefully it's not missing a lot of parts, not have major body damage & rust... thats one of the main things for me. I've dealt with my share of rusty cars & I stay away from them now. I'll post up an update. He mentioned something about a rare open driveline? I don't know what that means...?

Rule #1 about non running datsuns for sale, sellers love to claim things are rare to justify a price. When I bought my 510, the guy claimed it was setup for autocross. I guess stock ride height, stock suspension and brakes, and replacement rear shocks was a bitchin setup. These days, $300 for any datsun capable of being put back together is pretty decent.

I think the 73 610 door is more desirable (for the tail lights?), but $400 seems like a great price.. given the ONLY thing missing is the motor and tranny. When you start looking for other parts.. trim.. tail lights.. etc... yeah good luck.

Thanks, I'm going to need all the luck I can get. I'm hoping just the motor & tranny are missing. I can deal with that. These cars are so hard to locate where I live & Cali prices are way up.

I think a 2 door 610 is hard to get anywhere these days!

First one I have seen around here since I've been looking. Even if it's not to my expectations but has a solid body I'm going to still pick it up & put it away. We'll see what happens later today.

Probably means the IRS (independent rear suspension) with the differential fixed in position and a driveshaft down to each rear wheel. Absolutely NOT rare!!!. ALL 610 sedans had this, and it is pretty much identical to the earlier 510. The 610 wagon is a solid rear axle.

That's what I was thinking Datzenmike. The way he explained it didn't make sense.

@Ratsun, I'll be sure to post pics if I get it or not.

I found out that the 6 cylinder mark 2 coupes are extremely rare, they have a different x frame and a little different than the 4 cyl models. I think is a great looking car, reminds me of a 610.

It was in such a remote location I'm the mountains! I had a hard time getting up the one lane road & back out of there. He has 411 wagon, bunch of Datsun trucks, b210(basket case), 610(basket case), 76 Honda Civic, complete but needs work, rx3 goon, not too bad, I was considering. Said he has a couple of 510's, a 2dr &?. Sold them in two days. He said he had up to 150 cars up there. I wondered who took all those cars up there.? A lot of the licsense plate tags were in the late 70's early eighties.

Yea, I was pretty stoked when I picked it up! Even though I don't know squat about rotary motors... my wife was with me & thought I was crazy at first for getting it. I told her that theres no way I could lose! Has the original(not running) 12a or b I can't remember motor & 4 speed stills in it. That place was a honey hole for cars! The PO was a sprint car driver & owned a tow truck company in the 70 & 80's. He passed & they're selling all the cars that have been sitting since the 80's. I'm just getting the tail end of what people didn't notice. He said he had two 510's that sold in a couple days, I never seen them pass through CL. :(

It looks like shit right now, I'll post some pics up when I get some tires on it & clean it up a bit. Been sitting since 1982. Now the hunt for a windshield & some front end trim pieces. My obsession with Japanese classics is going to put me in the poor house!...lol!
