INDY510
When I turn the ignition switch to "ON" the fuel gauge moves and the charge light comes on, but when I turn the key to "off" everything stays on until I disconnect the battery. I've tried two different ignition switches, which were both working a few weeks ago, before I started "cleaning up" the stock 710 harness. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
ON 510s when this would happen on running 510s it was the external volt reg. try disconnecting it then turn off Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Second that. Had that happen with my '74 620. Voltage regulator wasn't turning off the alternator, so it kept the ignition circuit powered until I killed it with the clutch. Quote Link to comment
INDY510
It's a internally regulated KA24DE alternator ... the black/white ignition wire has a constant 12V now, so I obviously messed up re-wiring this: 4 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
blk wht wire is from the key switch and the fuse box Quote Link to comment
INDY510
Does anyone know what this relay is, on a 75 710 wagon? I had to bolt it to a ground to get the wipers to work. It has 6 thick 12ag wires: 2 blk/wht, 2 blu/blk, one white/red, and one solid white. If I unplug this relay, and then plug it back in, then the blk/wht wire no longer has a constant 12V. But as soon as the key goes to ON, it will get stuck on constant power until I unplug this relay. Does one of the blk/wht wires go to the ignition switch and one to the fuse box? wayno
What wires, there ain't no wires on that engine, the question is why does it run at all. Quote Link to comment
Brayden620
I seem to be having this same problem. I turn the key to thenoff position and the truck does nothing. I have to kill it with the choke. I thought it was the ignition coil but I also had a feeling it could be the voltage regulator? Quote Link to comment
Colbino
When I swapped in an IR alt. my car was still running the external volt. reg. as well (unintentionally) and having both regulators created these same conditions. Quote Link to comment

I have to kill it with the choke. I thought it was the ignition coil but I also had a feeling it could be the voltage regulator? Can't be the coil if the ignition switch is working properly. The ignition supplies power to the coil not the voltage regulator. No power... no spark. Put a test lamp between the + side of the coil and ground when running... it should light. Turn off ignition... lamp should go out. 1/ If it stays on find out why. Over night if it is on your battery will discharge 2/If it goes out, the only way the engine will keep running is if it diesels for being hot and the compression. If 2/ above check that your idle cut solenoid is working. Check that the choke is not on or that the carb is not flooding. Instead of using the choke, place in 4th and while holding the brake, let the clutch up to lug the engine, and turn the key off. When engine stops let the clutch up all the way. Quote Link to comment
