Wicked day for a wicked junk yard score.

In the old days, wrecking yards were the bastion of angry white men. they ran them, and they ran them the way they damn well saw fit. If you did‘t like it, there‘s the gate. I saw y first antis-semitic hate literature stapled to a door in a wrecking yard, back in the day. Wedges wrecking yard was such a place and I mention it because it was one of the few that had females of any sort on the premises. But the famous pair known as ‘wedges daughters‘ defied absolute certain gender identification. They looked like the sub-terrainean creatures from Jules Verne‘s ‘The Time Machine‘, only they wore dirty wife beater t-shirts and bib overalls that may have been blue once, but now sport  slicker coating of assorted automotive oils and greases, making them black. It was said that either of Wedges daughters could pack a chevvy short block on a shoulder and heft all the way to the checkout shack from any corner of the yard. It always seemed like Wedge was trying to palm one or the other off onto visitors to the yard. It was a mortifying thing to see.

Fast forward to yesterday. I thought I would mosey on by the local Pick‘nPull yard to see what they had in a 1995 subaru legacy. Sure enough, I spied two front seats in decent shape- and the color matched my tired old buckets to a t. But the donor car was at the end of the row, and it was already a 4 inch deep lake all around. I only had time to grab a good look and head back. Besides, I did‘t bring a 14mm wrench to bust them loose.

“How much?“ I asked the attractive young woman at the front desk. “Forty dollars each, but if you come back tomorrow, they will be on sale for 15 bucks each.“ Thirty bucks for two nice front seats?!? A sale?!? This is not something that would have ever happened back in the era when the Wedges of the world ran wrecking yards. The influence of women on the wrecking business cannot be overstated. It is more like a shoe store now. Sales, young women who are pretty and personable and who have clearly bathed quite recently? Amazing!

Today, thanksgiving, I stole back to the Pick‘nPull and nabbed my seats. the rain had deluged all night, but I was ready with my wellington boots on and a trash bag to cover each seat. $37.50 for two seats and a near mint plastic subaru legacy hubcap. Damn, that‘s something to be thankful for!

Hey, Banana....look around out there. I have met more than one cutie at the Pick n Pull. It isn't just Big Mama out there. Just sayin‘. I like em tiny, myself. And I have a Tool Kit Rewards card, but i never pay attention to their sales stuff. Too damn much going on. I just stumbled into this one.

I am as allegiant to my 1995 Subaru Legacy L wagon as I am to my 720 truck. Damn, that has been one amazing great car. In fact, the new (cloth) seats are step one in a total overhaul. It has 345,000 miles and it still runs fine. Ed Blood, over at Eddies Blue Flame is going to go through the entire car so that I don‘t have to buy another before I croak. THAT‘s how much I love my legacy wagon. Between the three- my 720 2wd, my 720 4wd, and my Legacy wagon- I have it covered. Would‘t trade any of them for a brand new Escalade.

Brittany is a solid 8, and sweet as honey. There is another gal there too, who is a very cool lady. Beautiful, if I may say so. And HWP.

In the Phoenix area it is common to see women working in the wrecking yards.  Some petite and pretty and some that would be better in a redneck watering hole as doorman/bouncer.

Great find and price on the suburu seats.

I was talking with one of the cashiers at a pull a part,  talk with her often as she is always there when I go.  Any way she is great at reading people, the kid in front of me was a smart ass and disrespectful to her so she spent about 10 minutes having hind empty his tool box and pockets on the counter after she rang up the parts he had put on the counter.  Needless to say she rang up another $215 in parts and politely told the kid that his transaction had been filmed and he could either pay for the parts or be arrested for theft.  I had to laugh.  He chose to pay of course and after he paid i commented to him that politeness might have been a better choice.  As I was checking out and talking with her she said that they have at least one to two people a day that they select to check out thoroughly and usually find the same as the kid.

She rang up my total and then I showed her the nuts and bolts that I always throw in my tool bucket and she knows I do this from past experiences and she never charges me for the little stuff.  My total came to over $70 and I said I would rather pay $20 in a joking manner.  She cut me off and said pay her $20 and be sure to come back the next Saturday as there would be new stock and a 50% off sale.
