Crashtd420
So they tried gluing down the bed liner? That hole looks like it was drilled. That's what I thought at first till i chipped a piece out.. and that hole is in fact a small rust hole... every piece I chipped had a small pin hole under it.....They screwed the bedline alone the top rail of the bed.... so I have about 20 screw holes to weld up..... Also along the outside where the little bed hooks are there are snaps... don't believe that's factory... not sure yet if I am gonna try to remove the snaps or not. Would be nice if I new what cover was used. Also there are 2 what look like drilled holes in the tail gate.... Don't think that's suppose to be there.... I can't even think about what could have been mounted there... 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Same photos, the snaps are likely for mounting a tonneau cover. 1 Quote Link to comment

thisismatt
Mine has snaps too. Pretty common. Plastic bedliners just perpetuate rust... 1 Quote Link to comment

I would use the snaps if I knew which one fit.... other wise I'll probably eventually shave them off.... And yes the plastic liner was thrown away instantly.... it will be coated in time... 1 Quote Link to comment

Crashtd420
Got the garage half cleaned... atleast now the truck has its permanent parking spot.. Now I just need to organize the work shop side.... Once I got that done I got the front end ride height reset.... I had to move the driveside tortion bar one tooth.... Nice and even on the adjusters now.. I have the front set to 25 1/8 and the back is around 26 3/4... looks good in the garage but couldn't get a wide enough pic to really show... this is the front height now.... With that extra inch raise in the front now my stupid muffler doesn't drag as I go in and out of my driveway.... 2 Quote Link to comment
gene knight
me and charlie69 reindexed my torsion bars on grimace before and then i had my king pins rebuilt from alignment shop, i had them adjust the drivers side so that both sides of truck was sitting even after front end alignment 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Ya I'm sure I'll have to do it once more.... When I assembled the tortion bars it was all a guess on ride height since it was just the chassis with no weight on it.. once I got the cab, fenders and bed on i was finally able to see it's stance ... Happy where it ended up, for now.. 1 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
Gene took the spindles, knuckles and parts into the front end shop and I think they charged him $250 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
That seems a bit steep.... i hope that was including parts? Then it doesn't sound to bad... I think it cost me about 100 for parts and I think my machine shop changed me 75 to install the new bushings and resize to fit the kingpins.... 2 Quote Link to comment

Pretty much what I've been charging when I do it. Part of that is because I still need to outsource the honing. Thanks Charlie! That seems a bit steep.... i hope that was including parts? Then it doesn't sound to bad... I think it cost me about 100 for parts and I think my machine shop changed me 75 to install the new bushings and resize to fit the kingpins.... You got a killer price! Do they do business via the mail? I'll send people there or possibly even have my own done there! lol :) Do you know if they reamed the bushings or honed them? It costs me $60 just to have a local shop do the honing. Which seems on the high side to me, but they were my only or best option when I had it done. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
$250 is the usual price my guy was ritired and gave it to another and he ruined the Kingpins Hydralic pressing the pin in and not honeing for the pin and said it will wear in. Fuck my steering would havebroke. I found another guy and did it for 60 apc plus the cost of the kingpin set which is like 100$ now MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. iF SPINDAL DONT MOVE BY HAND. DONT PAY THEM 2 Quote Link to comment

The place I use i don't believe would take mailed in jobs. They are a bit old school. Which is why i like them. The funny thing about the shop I use is they don't even advertise or have a sign out in front of the shop.... any time I recommend them I have to tell people to pull into the porn shop and go around back.... usually I get a wierd look.... Either way they are always busy and you can't beat their quality or accuracy and they usually get my stuff done fairly quickly... and they hone... 2 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I did a multiquote.....so the comment to Charlie showed up under a quote of his comment......and the question/comment to you showed up under a quote of yours......at least that's how it shows up on the computer. Maybe you're on a cell and it's different? Anyway...... Shops like that are pretty rare. If they advertise, they have to pass that price on to the customer, so you found a good one. :) Thanks! 1 Quote Link to comment

I've been doing them for $250 with the customer providing the kit and the spindles. I don't particularly enjoy doing them, so I seriously doubt I'll drop that price any. lol I've got a bunch in the shed waiting to get rebuilt. The plan is to put those on ebay. I thought about doing core charges and buying back cores, but with the kingpin kits getting hard to find, I think I'll just sell them out right and then be done doing them when they run out. 1 Quote Link to comment

I get interrupted while I'm reading... I get easily confused and read things wrong.. like which part was ment for me and charlie.... anyhow... the shop I use is rare and great... I sometimes wish I had more things to bring them just because I love doing business with them..... And the more I think about it i don't believe 250 is a bad price..... I wasn't thinking about disassembly and reassembly... while I may have only paid 75 to have my bushings done I had a few hours of my time fitting the rest and reassembling.... 2 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
If anybody is keeping their kiNGpiN Datsun a long time best to have a spare set of spindals and the wedge pins which" mklotz70" makes as spares as most get destroyed when banging them out. I have a set ready to go in so your not at the mercy of a shop thinking they doing you a favoror take a long time(which is more common now to find a shop that will do this.) Best to sawzall the upeer lower arms off to have as sapres and the hub for the hard to get bearings. I just just the whole hub if a bearing goes bad(hasnt yet) 1 Quote Link to comment

Just curious as to all in cost vs just having the kingpins rebuilt is. $700ish + shipping. No more drums. "all in" will be more than that since that just the fabricated pieces.....not the spindle/hub/rotor/caliper etc. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Rebuilding kingpins is a bitch, $250. is a screaming deal. I rebuilt mine once a long time ago, I honed on them for hours as the first time they would not move after together and it was a bitch to turn them in the truck, and I had to turn the wheel back as it would not return by itself. I honed for hours and hours before I got both them done and I was happy, I will never do it again, it's easier to convert over to ball joints. 1 Quote Link to comment
