Got the gas tank lowered so i was able to fully secure the bed....

Body line seems to be perfectly inline...

I'm actually surprised.... i used the universal energy suspension body mounts under the cab and 1/8 rubber pads under the bed mounts....

Also once I lowered the front of the gas tank to let the bed sit on the mounts not my tank and adjusted the front ride height my gas tank actually sits almost level... slightest tilt to the rear which should be perfect...

I guess somethings actually work out...

Next up is getting the rear wire harness fixed up and in place.. and some temporary lights.... I have intentions of doing the roll pan on the rear with some lights installed in it.... but that's money I don't have right now.....

And also I need to modify and connect a filler neck...

This doesn't work anymore....

I have a longer filler hose and overflow hose just need to modify the filler neck (using one from a 93 pathfinder) to allow it to bolt to the bed....

Got the new fuel filler and over flow tube attached.... luckily I bought enough.... I used a couple smaller pieces to temporarily run the gas tank I was always hoping I had enough left.... without the bed in place it was all a guess....

Anyhow pics.....

Some metal and a 93 pathfinder filler neck

Seems like there is Only 3 spot welds holding the flange on....

Also uncovered the access hatch in the bed... once I chiseled some of the Bondo out of the way, which was good because I couldn't get the overflow hose on... was glad I didn't have to lower the tank..

Makes me believe this I definately a 520 bed.....

When I bought the bed it was a trailer.. rear diff seemed a little smaller and leaf springs where a little different.... couple less leafs than my 521...

Also this hatch is different.. I saw mainer311s 521 in person and his hatch had a hinge... mine does not....

Luckily a 520 bed bolts up to a 521 no issue....

Dont know what i saw then.... might have just been the way i opened it...

As far as sending units Dont buy the ones listed on ebay.... they are not right.... the arm is all wrong....

I bought one.... I tried bending it to match the original but was some what unsuccessful... electrically it worked but I could get empty set right but not the full.. I ended up cleaning the posts on my old one and it still worked.

The roadster guys run a sender from some old VW, but, it needs to be bent as well. Sigh.

Maybe that same trick would work in the 521s....

I think the eBay one was just too long.. couldn't get the bend right to give me both full and empty....

Didn't feel like driving around half full all the time till the fuel level dropped enough to read....

So early 520 beds without the emissions system didn't have mount holes to attach the fill tube to the bed side, all they had was a hole with a rubber ring around it to keep the filler neck from hitting the metal sides of the hole.

I don't have a stock L series 521 box around here to take a photo of, but they had 3 screw holes around the fill tube hole to mount the filler neck to, there was no rubber ring on that type of box filler hole.

That's exactly what my sender does now...

Does your bed fender well on the driver side have an extension going forward on it or is it exactly the same as the passenger side fender well?

The 521s that came with the J series engines had 4.88 gears in the rear, while the 521s that came with the L16 block had 4.37 gears in the rear, the H190 axle housing is basically the same from 1962 thru 1986 except for the width of the axle.

The leaf packs are close to being the same all the way thru the 521 series.

I do have those 3 hole.... so sounds like the bed was infact for a 521....

Maybe from an earlier 521 with the j motor...
did those use a smaller diff ?
And possibly a smaller leaf pack?

Both are slightly different than what came with my 521....

Ya seems like you get to pic full or empty... i guess its better to know your gonna run out....

I have a diagram which I can get the arc and dimensions from if you wanna try to bend your sender arm to get a closer reading.. let me know....

And Wayno I do have the extension on the driveside with the charcoal canister under it.....

I guess I'll look at those leaf springs and rear diff tonight... I may have been a bit quick with the comparison.... I though I counted the leafs on each pack, but now i question that... for all I know one of the diffs could have been upside down and that's why they looked different.... pics will prove....

Which of those diffs would be better? Currently using what came with the truck...

I do plan on changing my 4 speed for a short ZL71b 5spd....
