Stoffregen Motorsports
Plans are tough. Things change. Parts become lost or unavailable or worse; you find that everything else looks so good that you can't bring yourself to install something that is rusty or crusty. Trumpets aren't bad. Fiats, Alfas and Ferraris have trumpets. I guess it could be worse. It could be a skin flute. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Haha. No skin flutes... ( if i make any other comment my wife will slap me) The more I put things back together the more I figure out I am missing so many original pieces... someone was definately snagging parts off it before i bought it. even those vent levers.... I never expected to find those .... And I am trying to stop my self from going ocd on the body work.. this won't be a show truck or trailer queen.. I welded up holes but I am not straightening every panel... it's a 40+ year old truck, trucks have dents and plus i seem to have better luck not crashing a vehicle that already has dents.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
The biggest thing is I can keep moving forward , even without the paint.... Still plenty of prep work.... the whole cab needs a quick 600 grit sand.... plus the fenders and doors need to get finished and ready for paint too so no resting here. 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well got the first round of dynamat done... With some help.... So i used the good stuff for the roof and back panel which will be visable.. the Floors got the rest in strategic places and is getting a second layer of soundproofing, full coverage... Started with the trans tunnel... rest to follow.... Stopped and pulled my new carpet out of the box before I continued.... I want to make sure the carpet covers the soundproofing..... And last... after I repaint the cab I'll install my dynamat headliner, had to do it in 3 pieces but should look good.... .... That's it for today..... 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Was that help or "help"? My kids "help" too. Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
He actually does help, in his own way... he wouldn't give up the dynamat rollers unless I let him help... He steals my tools quite often... I try to include him when ever I can, I even have to get the wife to help. Pretty sad when you have to use your wife and 5 year old to put the hood on or bleed the brakes... But in the end it's more fun with the family involved... Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
You just mentioned the two things that I need help with most often. My wife hates bleeding brakes and is looking forward to the day that the kids are old enough to do it. I work alone, and sometimes it is very difficult, but usually there's a way. Crashtd420
Trust me when I say putting the hood on was a little sketchy..... Me holding, wife stabilizing with a 5 year old putting the bolts in.... Wish I had a pic of that.... They seem a little more excited about the project now because it actually runs and drives and resembles a truck again.. It helps keep the momentum up.... 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Lol I had to put my hood back on by myself. Put it on my back lowered it in place and got the screws in one side and held it up with my other hand. It sucked to say the least. Hell 99% of this shit I have done has been by myself. My bother helped me lower it and replace the clutch slave but other than its been you dudes. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Got the floor done..... Covered in cheaper sound proof after the dynomat.. Top layer bonded better using a heat gun first..... good enough for me.... Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Got the interior mostly masked off for paint... few areas need a little more tape to seal things up... Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Still need to tape the lower part of the rockers, and the edge of the inner fender on the passenger side.... This is the driver side edge .... 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Nothing much to update.... Been working on the fenders, all the holes are welded and ground down... Still gotta clean the rust on the back side... Also if i have to watch my son and cant use my air compressor I've been wet sanding the cab with 600 grit to accept the new paint.... Found a nice high spot that went right to bare metal.... not perfect but flatter... Atleast the roof is smoothing out... felt like sand paper before... Definately need to get all the paint done 1,2,3... all at once... having to sand things really exposes how straight this truck is not .... 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
For some reason I decided to fix my defrost duck today.... a motivational repair.... Mounting tab was broken off... Made a small metal piece .... Worked out pretty good... little paint and a rivet to finish it off.... Used some left over seam sealer to fill the little gaps... 3 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well i finally bought the paint... just showed up friday.... Cabs is as ready as it's gonna be.... won't be perfect but it will be better then it was and atleast the color will be what I wanted in the first place.... Tomorrow morning I just need to do a final wipe down and a once over with a tack cloth and then paint... crossing my fingers.... I have a better idea of what I am doing this time and I had a second unused paint gun so I'll be using that tomorrow..... 2 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Nice repair on the defroster duct. Man I thought you would put some color on this truck. LOL 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Thanks charlie... and I had thoughts of some color but even my wife likes the flat black.... in the end the flatblack just fits with my hole end vision of the truck..... Hopefully the contrast to the semi gloss accents will show the direction i am going with the paint..... Pics coming soon.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well i had a few hiccups getting started but i got it done.... May not be a show car paint job but atleast I got a consistent color and everything seems nice and smooth... The hood with the semi gloss accent... I just put the emblem on for the pic.... I'll probably repaint the emblem too since all the chrome will be semi gloss.... 2 Quote Link to comment
racerx
Semi gloss looks good though. 1 Quote Link to comment

Crashtd420
Thanks for the comments.... finally back to forward progression..... Next will probably be the carpet so I can permanently install the seats.... Actually hoping to take it to a show in 2 weeks... got a friend coming by with a trailer if I can fit it I'm going if not I'll just be a spectator.... don't have the extra cash to rent one for the day.... 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Are you going to Japanese car day? I did a good shake down on my truck this morning and it seems pretty reliable. Seriously considering bringing the truck instead of the roadster. A little flavor from last year. 240/60/80's, roadsters, 300's Mazda rotary truck Old skool Celica! Lots of modern stuff 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
I will definately be there for the show... If my 521 fits on the trailer it's coming too... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well damn.... it didn't fit on the trailer.... trailer was too short..... unless I can find another one to borrow the 521 will be missing the show.... So I tried to lay the carpet in.... and that didn't go so well either... Front fit good along the firewall... But Under seat had some wierd hump molded in.... So the box say 68-83. That's covers alot of models.. Well hopefully I can make this a 2 piece carpet and make it look good... atleast the cut I need to make will be under the seats.... and just trim the sides....
