Crashtd420
Better look at my cobbled together exhaust.. I used a 2" mandral bend pipe to exit the headers, straight to the muffler for now... one of my first rides will be to an exhaust shop to tuck that exhaust up.. .. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well I wish I new this before I bought a 4spd for my 521.... I had a ZL71b transmission which thankfully I never ended up selling. Just scored this... Lseries bellhousing, plus a shifter... Now I can make a nice short tail 71b transmission for my l16.. no drive shaft modification needed .... 3 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Got back to work on my truck started on the doors and hinges... got a little table top drill press to help with repinning the hinges.... The door looks like some one mounted 5 different mirrors on it... has about 8 or 10 holes in it I need to weld up.. .. Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Stripping the doors revealed the original color.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Figured I'd share this.... this is what pays the bills... This is the biggest part I work on... It's the inside half of a very large 4.5ft diameter x 5ft tall hydrostatic bearing. 2 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
So it was black? I've seen black primer used on a few vintage Datsun models. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Actually other way....no that black was my doing.... original color is that beige color underneath..... I painted the whole truck about 15 years ago with 20 cans of 99cent flat black from homedepot.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
So i ran out of paint stripper, so I decided to play with the door hinges today. Started with the upper driverside, decided to use these, gave me an extra bushing set to correct the oblong hole on the bottom of the hinge 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
So far so good.... got bushings installed Need to smooth the inside flush,.. Now the other half...... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Little more progress... Kept working on my hinges, in between stripping the paint on my doors, fenders and hood.... Also got the fuel pressure regulator installed.... carb seems much happier... I have it set a out 3.5 psi.... seems to drop about 1 psi when I rev the engine but stays stable.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Got one hinge done... I haven't permanently installed the pin yet still need to clean and paint... Also found some little oiling holes... cleaned those That was the worse one out of the set.. came out good for my first try , not perfect but will function properly.... Maybe I should have started with an easier one.... Drivers lower hinge started a little better... I had to grind the head off and drill into the pin that took some pressure off the spline and I was able to drive out the pin.. Step one did good.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well i got lucky... my friends girlfriend traded he car in with her snow tires on... left me a nice set of 190/65-15 tires in my buddy's garage That they can't use... Also ordered shocks, and a new master cylinder and all my brake components to finish doing my front end disk upgrade.. along with a bunch of small miscellaneous parts I needed. Trying to be on the road by the end of july.... fingers crossed..... 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Ahh 2 steps forward 3 steps back.... Back on Jack stands... wheel off to do the brakes and shocks and new tires... Also pulled the gas tank and the brackets I made to hold it.... Need to paint that stuff along with the body parts I am painting... Also got my quarter windows disassembled and the back window taped up ... I hate body work and paint. But it has to be done.. Trying to keep myself motivated, I tend to jump around to different tasks depending on the day and if I have to pay attention and watch my son or not.. Some days I don't wanna work on what I was yesterday, so I try to get just one thing done no matter what it is... even a small thing puts me one step closer to driving her again..... 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Keep at it it will come together. If you want to see jumping around to different tasks read my 520 thread. the link is in my signature. Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Can't help but put things on as they show up... I've actually had the pads for 15yrs. Use to own a 93 pathfinder. Never did change those brakes.. . Thanks beebani for the brackets... perfect fit, nice clearance to my rims extremely satisfied.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Don't be shy. I use forum threads as reference material for my own builds. I post as many pics as I think are important to the job, then if I need to go back later, I can see them in a timeline form. A side benefit is that the customer gets to join in and post or do as I do and use it as reference for later. It's easier than understanding any file I can make on my PC. 1 Quote Link to comment
