Coming north to Arlington/camano friday

Recommended Posts

So i got volunteered to help my brother move from Arlington to a house he bought on camano this weekend. Moving boxes and stuff of the like doesn't bother me so much. Its the 10x20 stick built shed that should be fun to move. He wants to crib it up and back the car trailer under it. I want to put it on 4x12 or 10 skids and winch it on. Problem is, im not sure how to tie the damn thing down. He suggested drilling hole in the floor joists and tying it on that way. But i figured it would be better to tie it down from a higher point. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah and since im heading that way, any one need anything transported up from Olympia? Im pretty much running up with empty cargo space in the car.

Car trailer or true flatbed?  I've never seen a car trailer with more than a 6 1/2 foot bed, and the fenders are above the bed, which pretty much eliminates winching the thing up there.  You'd have to crib it over the fenders and support it that way, which is not particularly stable.  If it's a true flatbed with no protruding fenders it would be easier but you are still going to be about a foot wider on each side, so don't get pulled over for being oversize...

As for tying it down, I'd bolt some substantial eye bolts through the floor joists and strap it that way.  You want to prevent movement, not arrest it.

Troy must really love his shed.  I mean, I get it- they're expensive.  I have to admit that I moved an 8x10 wooden garden shed since it was free, but we took the damn thing apart first.  Had to, since it was originally installed in the courtyard of my Mom's house and no way to remove it intact. Its floor was totally rotted out so I made an all new sill plate and put it on a concrete slab.

Im hoping i can talk him into getting it professionally moved. So much cheaper in the long run. Problem. He built it for storage and a small work area at the place he was renting. Now that he is buying a house on camano, he doesn't want to leave it behind, wich i can't blame him, but Gee's im not looking forward to this.
