Hello forum. I just bought a 74 n I'm basically addicted. I always wanted A Datsun mini truck in high school now I'm 44 just sold A 54 Belair a to my homeboy and his wife and A space in yard became avail. Turns out guys think these lil trucks are valuable here in Bay Area.... Searched hi and low and found garbage w thousand plus dollar prices... Fave part... "Runs and drives" is very common... Then when I say Im willing to drive to Ore or Wa to buy but want to drive home... "Well... I wouldn't" or bring a couple of cases of oil n i think it'll make it... Anyway found "74 5 spd 1200$" in Stockton so rented trailer drove two hours and bought it. DO NOT GO TO STOCKTON!!!! Makes Yemen look like disneyland! SKETCH! Turns out it wasn't a 5spd... n wasn't complete at all but it came home. I had friend come over and he put new points in and we sprayed carb cleaner in vac lines and it does run. No rad or carb so scored an alum off Amazon 125$ and A 32 36  Weber from redline, taking six hole Enkies off my K5 and ordered 205 50s from eBay. bought a 5spd from 1980 720 that cleaned up nice and is 31" long as is my 4 spd and what else can I add. Oh yeah dash cover and Auto meter gauges. I am accruing parts and think this will be fun lil rig. guys on my crew at work are graffiti guys so talked about a mural in bed or maybe hood. As soon as I'm done joining here I'm back to buy-in shit online and gonna get the disc brake hanger deal n get to town on brake parts. hoping to have this turd on road soon. I can't wait. I am a caveman n dunno how to post pics but I will get one o my nerds in my crew or a floozy to help asap! Cant wait to be rollin

Welcome to Ratsun.

'74 was the first year for that style 71B 4 speed. The 71B 5speed is a total drop in swap, but keep and use the clutch release bearing collar (it's on the end of the clutch arm) that is in your truck now when you swap transmissions. (use a new bearing though) Also, swap your '74 speedometer drive sleeve into the 5 speed or your speedometer will read too high.
