Datsun 620 "Green Hustler" Back again and Almost Finished... *for now

Recommended Posts

Hey Folks,

My Name is Markus, 26 years old living in Cologne/Germany.

I Sold my R32 Skyline GTST that i owned for 5 years a couple of months ago and got the chance to buy a Datsun 620 (Hard to find in Germany, cause they were not sold here)

Its A 79´  4 Speed Floor Shift with a J15 Engine.

Ive Pulled the Engine Yesterday, it will get complete new Seals and will be painted.

The Exterior is Okay, so im not going to Re-Paint the cab and bed(bed is getting the Herculiner Treat), i like the Used-Look oldschool Flavour ;)

It Has Drum Brakes Front and Rear! , The EU Versions got Drums in front till the end of production. BUT its Balljoint in Front. So i anyone has some Cheap OEM Datsun 620 Front hubs and Spindles for Disk´s laying around, i would be Interested.

What i Already got:

-15x10" Truck Wheels (Dishy as F*ck)

-Rear Disk Brake Setup

-Lowering blocks

Plans:

-Slam it

-Front Disk Brakes

-Golf MK1 Front Lip (Easy to source since i live in germany)

-Herculiner Treatment for the bed

-Some Wood Grain Steering Wheel

-H4 Beam Conversion

-Leather Interior

-Shotgun Style Muffler

-Weber Carb With Pierce Manifold for MGB´s

-Stainless Exhaust Manifold from MGB´s

-Electric Fuel pump

Hi Marcus, welcome to Ratsun.

Ten inch rims.... I think you'll have problems slamming it. Tires have to stay inside the fenders or the body will come down on it, and certainly will on bumps. Our N American '78-'79s came with disc brakes. If yours has king pin steering you will need a kit to put disc brakes on it as the later ones won't swap on. The 620 was the most beautiful truck Datsun ever made.... but I'm biased.

Thanks for the Welcome!

@datzenmike

Its balljoint upper and Lower :)

10" is wide as hell, but im rolling and Pulling the Fenders, put fender Flares on it and go for small tire width such as 215/45/15 ..

Hahaha Ich würde sagen, dass der Skyline zwar schön war, aber der Datsun seltener und doch irgendwie besser ist, aber hier hast du ein bild von meinem Sky:

Nice looking 620, I like the green.

Your one sounds a lot like my New Zealand model. J15, drum brakes and Ball joints. I used the front hubs, brakes and spindles off a Nissan D21 (we call them a Navara, I think USA calls them a hardbody) They swapped straight on. The only problem being the chassis bracket for the rubber brake line was a slightly different shape.. hope this helps

Updates ;) ... Got a load of Engine Bay and Engine Parts given away to Sandblast and Gold Zinc Plating. Waiting for my gasket kit to reassamble the engine and Paint the Oil pan and the Timing cover.

Got myself a Weber Carb too. Including the MGB Manifold to fit Directly onto the engine.
