720 engine swap question

So I have a question about swapping the motor in my truck.it's a 1984 720 king cab 4x4. The motor has a carburetor. I do not fully understand how one works. So my question is. If I were to put a z24i in my 720 instead of the original z24 would I be able to still use the carb if I left the old intake on or is there something that prevents the carb from working. Also. How hard would it be to just switch over to fuel injection. Only reason I'm asking is that it seems to be much easier to find a remanufactured z24i than the z24 with a carb.

Both engines are the same, only the intake and choice of carb or RFI is different. I had an engine I  bought from an '84 truck and when I pulled it, the flywheel had D-21 in crayon on it. Someone had taken an '89 Hardbody engine and put the '84 intake and carb on it. Switching to EFI would be a lot of work. You would need a high pressure fuel pump and the Z24i doesn't use a distributor but a CAS (crank angle sensor) requiring a special wire harness.

The easiest thing is to swap your '84 intake and carb onto the Z24i engine as well as the '84 distributor, and put it in.

I think you are looking for this....

Long block is the fully assembled engine-block consisting of the crankshaft, cylinder head, camshaft, and valve train. It does not include the fuel system, electrical system and the intake and exhaust components, etc.

The intake and fuel/ignition is what makes a Z24 different from a Z24i. Just get a Long Block and bolt your '84 manifolds, carb, distributor, flywheel and pulleys on.
