If you mean steering WHEEL, say so. Get the same diameter but with more padding or just wrap it with something. Stock ones look the best, others are just flavor of the month. In a year you'll wonder what you were thinking. Keep the original for when you want to go back to it.

I'm curious about swapping out the whole steering system.  Not just the wheel.  maybe changing to power steering?  I'm just not sure.  a friend said put a mustang II power steering system into it.  they are cheap, but I'm wondering if there is something from Nissan that would fit in easier without too much modifications.  I saw on another forum that someone has swapped a frontier steering system into a 620.

I'm just curious if there are any other options.  I looked and frontier steering racks are like $500 and up.
and it doesn't go into to much detail about any modifications that might have had to be done to get the rack to fit.

I'm really just curious to know more from people who have experimented with changing out the original 75' 620 steering system out for something more modern

Mike already linked you to the most in depth discussion on the topic we have had. I don't think there are many who feel the expense is worth it to just install a power steering gear box.

That being said, get a pump and brackets from an L series Zcar/maxima and swap to electric fuel pump, since the power steering goes where the mechanical pump sits, then start getting frisky.

It will likely require a complete column swap, or major welding/fabrication on your column to get things to fit. The truck is front steer (steers from front of knuckle) so you will have to use parts from something else front steer.

720s have power steering, but the box is on the outside of the frame, 620s are on the inside. But maybe you can figure something out.

I've seen some electrical power steering conversion kits that allow you to - probably not so simply - add it to your existing steering column while maintaining the rest of your existing steering components.

Here's one example of a kit. Sorry if it's not applicable, but it was the first one when I just now did a google search of "electrical power steering conversion kit."

I may look into this some day.

Though some here who think the 620 has easy steering apparently haven't spent much time in modern vehicles - the 620 is a bitch to turn at low speed with stock tires properly inflated, but it's even worse with wider, performance-oriented tires.

620 are steered from in front of the wheels. Most R&P are for cars and behind the wheels. If using one for behind the wheels there is nowhere to connect to and they would steer opposite way if used in front. In order to keep geometry the same and limit bump steer you would need an R&P that was the same as the 620 steering box to the idler are width. On top of this is fabbing up a suitable pump to power it. Then there is the 620 steering column and box.... it's all one piece so you can't just separate and fit a power steering set up in there.

I used a 720 steering column and a 280zx power steering box. The 620 pitman arm fit right on. Made my own pump mount and fit it where the L series air pump was. Joined the column to the box right where the rag joint was. Later I had a SAS front end so I used a D21 PS box.

As Hainz said, you don't really need them. Maybe a gym membership?
