Misopoor510
I need help. I have been looking for a shop in San Jose to paint my Datsun 510. It does need some light body work as well. The car completely taken apart. 1) Does anyone have any suggestions ???? 2) How much should I be looking to spend? Thank you everybody in advance 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Where to start.... without any pictures this could be $1,000 to $10,000. You say light body work and the car taken completely apart????? You mean it is apart or needs to be taken apart??? Can you drive it to get estimates? Body work isn't cheap and painting 10X more. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/54932-photobucket-ratsun/ 2 Quote Link to comment
tr8er
You'll spend close to 1000 just on rubber. If you leave the glass in, you could get paint for 1-2K. If you spend three figures, you will not be happy in the end. Full strip, body, exterior and interior paint, you could easily see a fifth figure. Depends on level of bodywork. 1 Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
good work is not cheap.... 5k is the ball park for a "good/decent" bottom up paint job with minor body work you are in the bay area... you are going to have to find some one that "wants" to paint your car... or else you will be getting the "two more weeks.... two more weeks, need another $500 for materials..." calls 1 Quote Link to comment
Misopoor510
king rat, The car is in pieces the only part that's on the shell is the rear cross member with wheels. _________ The legend I have had nothing but flakers and no one seems to want to take on a full body paint job. As for the body work,, I need to shave the engine bay and weld the trunk catch because the previous owner shaved the trunk and took out the license plate area. I will try to post some pictures to see what you guys think. Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Then you will need to do some welding and body work yourself. Do you have the tools, a secure garage space and the time? Job? Girlfriend? Other than this, it's going to take thousands and thousands of dollars to have someone else do it for you. Then there's the risk of overruns and excuses and demands for more money. If it's paint, take a course and buy some equipment and do yourself. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Hey, if we all had $8K to spend on fucking paint.... we wouldn't be driving a Datsun in the first place!!!! It's doing more with less to keep them running. Doing it yourself. Being involved not just leafing through a magazine and choosing parts and a color. 2 Quote Link to comment

Misopoor510
I have done some most of the work myself. But when it comes to paint. That is definatly not an endeavor worth doing. I have invested thousands in this car what a little more for paint. 1 Quote Link to comment
