nissan/datsan720
Hey yaw i was wondering if there is a return on the signal switch on an '85 720 ? (When u hit the signal and it automatically returns to off when the wheel sets back into foward position) mine is not returning and the inspections mentioned it... Is this even on this model? Just lookin at the switch i dont see anything that would trigger the return 1 Quote Link to comment
84720FourWheel
There is a return, I'm unsure of how it functions, though. 1 Quote Link to comment
Rjawm
There are pins on the back of the steering wheel, at the hub, that activate the cam, in the column, to make the signals turn off. If you have an aftermarket steering wheel it's very common for people to forget, or not know, to install the pins into the hub adapter. Sometimes, but rarely, they break off on a factory steering wheel over time. The cam however is prone to wear, it's made of plastic, and can eventually wear out to the point that the pins can't engage it properly. 1 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
I would keep the turn signal switch if you plan on having the truck for any length of time. Most places will not return on electrical parts. Quote Link to comment
nissan/datsan720
Yeah horn electrode is fried on mine anyway i think... Gotta figure out how to make a pin on this wheel though... And gotta do it before they stop extending my time to get my inspection sticker 1 Quote Link to comment
nissan/datsan720
Any chance anyone knows where it needs to be located/which part of the signal it hits 1 Quote Link to comment
nissan/datsan720
Nice made a return pin out of a bic pen since my gt steering wheel has a different system.. Its got a raised peice of aluminum in the wrong location and two short.. So yeah.. Bic pen. Seems to work for now..ill keep yaw up to date on how long it lasts... Wouldnt surprise me if it lasted way longer than i needed it too... Literally a second or two after they put that sticker on.. Never had one before .. Not sure why i need it now 1 Quote Link to comment

Rjawm
Sorry I didn't see the question before this but usually a roll pin is used. Like these... There is a small hole on the backside of the steering wheel, or hub depending on OEM vs. aftermarket, that it gets installed in. From what I recall it's roughly a half inch of pin sticking out to operate the cancel cam. Last one I did was in a D21, haven't done one on a 720 in a while lol. 1 Quote Link to comment

720inOlyWa
Avoid over-tightening the steering wheel on the column, I did this and had the same symptoms you describe. I also bought a (wrecking yard) turn signal switch. But once I backed the nut off 1/4 turn, everything worked fine... and I felt... really, really... dumb. Just sayin’. 1 Quote Link to comment
