Lowering poses a problem if the rim/tire is too negatively offset. The body will come down on it. Fucks the body and cuts a groove all the way round a good tire. Too positive and it rubs the frame or suspension. Good that you're looking at this before buying, many don't. The end up trying to make the car fit their choice in rims. In a way it's like marriage.

Don't buy wheels until you get the suspension at the ride height you want.  Why throw money at a stalled project, especially when its likely wasted (meaning they probably won't fit)?  I ended up buying 2 sets of wheels for my truck, even though it was already set up at ride height when I measured and installed.  Lowering changes everything.  It actually changes the offset.  Quit wasting time looking at wheels and figure out how to get the truck running and on the road.
