racerx
While waiting for rebuild kit, do u guys lube the rubber rings and piston with some kind of lube or just use brake fluid. Im hearing various stories. Want to get it straight from ratsuners whos done this before. And if so, what kind of grease or lube? Thx Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I've used brake fluid on the calipers I've rebuilt. I haven't done many, but it worked fine for me. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Brake fluid inside. Brake grease for external components. Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
What does the metal ring look like? small copper washer, oring made of aluminum, etc. pic please Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I bet it helps hold the rubber dust boot on. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Just a guess. My '74 710 has the same caliper with the beveled pads and there is a large C ring that clips over the dust boot to secure it. Quote Link to comment
racerx
Yes, i eventually figured it. If needed, probably can take off the old one w needle nose. But its good. The outer rubber ring had cracks. Still waiting for piston. 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
Actually its a metallic o ring that goes in front of the 2 rubber rings inside where the pistons goes in. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
Yup. Getting it started evenly was the only difficult part in rebuilding these. But I think a vice would have done well. I had a hammer and something flat. Quote Link to comment
