racerx
As the ad states i need the caliper, mine is leaking. Thx Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Also used on the 610 through '73 and the 710 through '74. NAPA would probably know or tell you this but you might find a set on an old 610/710. Quote Link to comment
racerx
Will give that a try. Thx. Mike Quote Link to comment
67_1600
I was never able to find replacement calipers but maybe you'll have better luck than I did. There are caliper rebuild kits available if you're not able to find complete calipers. 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
67_1600, thx for the info. Yes ive seen the rebuild kits but will try to find a set somewhere. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
The rebuild is super easy and you get to keep the akebonos. Stop the hunt and start the work! 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
Tr8er, so how so you rebuild them. Never did them before. Btw what is an akebonos? 1 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
Akebono is the manufacturer of the calipers. Original Japanese manufacturer. He's saying keep the good stuff. Rebuild is an o ring and a dust boot. YouTube any caliper rebuild, they are all basically the same. 3 Quote Link to comment

I rebuilt a 4 piston set of Toyota 4x4 calipers once with very good results. The trick was finding a set that were not rusty. Just clean them like surgical instruments. Quote Link to comment

tr8er
Tr8er, so how so you rebuild them. Never did them before. Btw what is an akebonos? Like lockleaf said. Akebonos are OEM and. I've never seen a casing go bad. Just the seals. The Pistons rust, so replace the Pistons cause they are cheap, the seal/dust cap are cheap and easy enough (there is a trick to tapping them in straight so watch a vid or two). Wash them with brake fluid and fine steel wool, and do not use ANY bleach. Or even soap, water and thinner so you can paint them all purdy. Quote Link to comment
racerx
Looks very good tr8er but no luck in finding rebuild kit. Called autostores, ebay and on line. Quote Link to comment

racerx
Draker, thx, ordered them already and rebuild kit. Now gotto to find someone with a strong air compressor to blow out piston. Also will order hoses. 1 Quote Link to comment
67_1600
You can also use a grease gun to push the pistons out - just put a bolt into one side and a zerk fitting in the other. It's a little messy but works well. 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
Okay will try that too if i cant find a neighbor w a compressor 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
How much air would i need to push the pistons out? Quote Link to comment
tr8er
How much air would i need to push the pistons out? Likely not much. I'd bet a b-ball pump would work if you had the fittings. Quote Link to comment
racerx
Thx, will give it try Quote Link to comment
tr8er
How much air would i need to push the pistons out? You can just leave it hooked up and use the brake pedal to push it out. A bit more cleanup, but you could keep it clean. 1 Quote Link to comment
john510
How much air would i need to push the pistons out? Not very much ! Watch which direction you have the caliper pointed,Too much air and that piston will come out flying. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Why not use the master cylinder to pop the piston out? It's all there. Always place a piece of wood in there to stop the piston. They only pop if they are stuck. Quote Link to comment
racerx
I have another all apart already. Have to find some fittings and may go to a gas station see if that works. 1 Quote Link to comment
