jbcottrell
My new rotors do not seat against the eBay bought hubs I have. I suspect the hub is wrong. Anybody have any experience? You can feel them lock in against the back of the wheel studs but then the rotor mounting bolt holes are off. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Too many unknowns. New rotors... Where are the old rotors???? Compare the new and old rotors. E-bay hubs? What's the story on these? If you have zx struts, where are the old hubs from them? If you can't compare your old rotors and hubs to the new ones, I have to assume you don't have any. If you bought zx struts without rotors and hubs on them, and as all struts look pretty much like all other struts. Maybe they aren't zx struts.. Measure between the two bolt holes that hold the caliper onto the strut. The zx should measure 89mm (there are others the same but if not 89mm it isn't a zx strut) Now look at the front and back surfaces of these two 'ears'. If only one side is machined flat it is not a zx strut. The caliper mount 'ears' are 19mm thick, any other amount is NOT a zx. The caliper mounting bolt holes are NOT threaded. Just holes. The zx rotor is 20mm thick and vented. Not that cross drilled and slotted bull shit. Like two plates with vanes in between. The rotor diameter, outside and inside diameters of the pad surface, is 251mm X 151mm The hub to rotor bolt mounting circle is 103mm diameter on the zx Special thanks to Byron Meston and The Realm for this hard won info. Time to borrow a camera and post some pictures. Someone may notice something. Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
Seems like there's some shady shit going on ebay as far as zx hubs and rotors from ebay lately. This is the second time in less than a week that a thread has been started about this exact subject. Glad I got mine from a reliable source. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Best to get zx struts complete. You don't need the coil but rotor and caliper would identify it. A strut is a strut, can you ID a zx from an S110 strut without rotor or caliper on it? I couldn't. Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
I don't recall any locking in. I just started the bolts then drove the hub down into the rotor until seated. Nothing directly contacts the wheel studs. Quote Link to comment
jbcottrell
Yep. The problem is I don't have any old parts. I'm putting this together for my 510. I got struts from T3, new 280Zx rotors from WorldPac, used hubs from eBay and I still need nuts, washers and cotter pin. Turns out the wheel bearings are the same as Porsche 911. I got caliper brackets from the Eagle Rock swap meet and rebuilt ZX calipers from IMC. Yes, it's quite a mishmash! So, I know the rotors are correct since they came from a reliable parts house. The 911 bearings work great. The hub (from eBay) may be a different model. Could they be 280Z? Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
post a picture... We are flying blind here. Quote Link to comment
jbcottrell
Unfortunately I can't post a picture from my phone. The studs have to be in the right position in the hub. That's dictating the bolt pattern. Maybe the problem is with the rotor. I'm going to try a different manufacturer tomorrow. Quote Link to comment

jbcottrell
The bolt pattern is correct for both the wheel and the rotor to the hub. They are not 240Z because they are not scalloped. They might be 260 or 280Z. Is there any visual difference between a 280Z and a ZX? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The brakes??? The rotor on the 280z is just a solid thin plate. The 280zx is a vented rotor (20mm thick about 3/4") and looks like two plates separated by cooling fins. I posted this. Pretty much all Datsun 4 bolt wheels will fit all hubs. Quote Link to comment
jbcottrell
Not the rotors. Is there a visual clue on the hub to differentiate Z or ZX? Quote Link to comment
