620 ka swap

Soooo...... I've been pissing my wife off something Royal... By having my "project" taking up our entire garage. Figured I would finish it sence we are listing our house (anyone wanna buy a house in Gilbert?). Back to the project, I iust fit the ka24de in lot the engine bay..... Kinda fits..... Need to massage the oil pan... My question is can I use the flywheel and clutch from the original L20? I have a clutch and flywheel from a ka24e...... This flywheel needs to be resurfaced. Or do I need a flywheel and clutch from the ka24de??..... Thanks for the advise

Technically, yes the L stuff would likely fit. It's smaller and has less clamping force, so it might prove very easy to get slip in your clutch. The KA is significantly more powerful and putting it through that clutch is probably not worth the effort.

Redeye, here on ratsun, is the king of ka swapped 620s. He could tell you what pan etc to use to get the proper clearances for a bolt in fit. he also sells a full ka 620 swap kit so everything bolts in perfectly.

Oil pan...flip the crosslink so it now bolts from the other side.

Will need to have the holes filled in and tapered from the opposite side now too.

I don't think the L flywheel bolts up. It might.

But...BUT...you will be swapping clutches a lot.

Look up white rabbit clutch mod. Applies to your application for clutch awesomeness.

There are 240sx and D21 KA engines so there are some differences there and in the oil pan. The 240sx engine is much heavier and has a crank girdle that extends the oil pan downward.... no way around that. The D-21 Hardbody engine is different... and no, before you ask the Hardbody oil pan does not fit the 240sx engine. The car KA uses a 225mm clutch and matching flywheel while the Hardbody comes with a 240mm. The truck flywheel is at the heart of the 'White Bunny' cutch swap. With a 240mm flywheel you can even mount a 300zx clutch. If all you have is the 225mm flywheel from the truck, and don't want to run the 240mm wheel, get the clutch for the 240sx and don't run the 620 one.

]2eDeYe sells 620 to KA engine swap engine mounts.

To answer one question, yes the E clutch/flywheel will work on the DE.

To reiterate and offer a counter suggestion to another answer, don't touch the oil pan flip the center link. The method mentioned above is probably the cheapest/easiest, I don't like making things easy on myself so I did a straight bore and made a new center link using rod ends (heim joints).

To answer your question from the other thread you started heater hose diagram.

Since you deleted the throttle body coolant hoses you can skip the part where the return hose runs through that block on the back/bottom of the intake.

And since no one has said it yet, where are the pics?

Nice idea.

Any chance you known what the taper in those those holes are ?

(please say 7 degree, as I have that reamer already)

As far as a flywheel, any of the RB20, or RB25 flywheels will also bolt to the KA.

I was importing Japanese billet steel flywheels for the 240 guys until china started selling mystery metal flywheels for half the price. :crying:

One of at least a few threads on the topic of posting pictures, just happened to be the first one google pulled back.  Google is your friend.

Since every forum ever is big on telling people to use the search at the top, and since ever forum's search function sucks a helpful google hint.

In the google search bar type  ratsun: and then what your searching for. That will limit the search to urls containing "ratsun".

Did you make your own motor mount brackets? Plenty of people running 240 engines without having to dent up the oil pan, so just curious if your is set lower than others.

Then engine mounts are original ones...... dropped 3/4" and welded back up, no issues with clearance from the top and bottom...... The pan clearance comes from the pen sitting too far back..... not much, but just enough...... its been fixed and clears lock to lock 1/4-1/2"

He used my brackets.

I think some people taper the hole deeper than others and this is why you get some people needing clearance at the pan. The deeper the hole the closer you get to the pan.

I want to develop a rear sump pan that eliminates the need to flip the center link, but that's a ways out in my project que.

Good to know. Since I went the unconventional route that wasn't something I had considered.

Nice truck by the way. Now, more pictures. I'm in-between projects and want to live vicariously through others.
