Is 521 RHD with SR20DET Swap Possible?

Would anyone happen to know if converting a 521 to a RHD have any fitment issues with an SR20DET swap? From what I read on a thread on here for the swap on a LHD truck, there seems to be a slight fitment issue with the turbo set up and the steering column. However; I am thinking that I can avoid that issue with the conversion, but the manifold also looks like it will be in the way for a RHD steering column. Is there anything else I need to worry about other than steering column? I have tried googling pics of RHD with the swap and couldn't find any either.

SR20's are tight fit. Im not saying it wont work but with a stock mani i see a problem, now with a greddy one there might be more room to work. Also if you convert a u joint style or collapsable steering shaft that could free you more room as well. I have a FJ20 in mine and there looks to be a lot of room but it gets taken up really quick.

One more thing to think of would be to convert to a rack and pinion style and that should solve all your issues and it will be easier then a RHD swap. but it will be cool.

Dammit you guys are scaring me away! Those are all valid points. I want to do a RHD conversion bc I want a RHD car, not just for the turbo fitment issue. From the thread I saw where you cut your LHD dash and switch up the parts and reweld, it looked to be a fairly cheap swap, please correct me if im wrong. I have money saved for the front Disk Brake conversion as well as a good deal I'm getting for an entire SR20DET swap with a brand new Specialties Wiring harness included.

mrbigtanker: by converting to a rack and pinion, would that mean 1) power steering?  and 2)would that clear an SR swap?

Eastbay521: by suspension, do you mean converting to rear coilover? Do you have an SR swap? I know traction is difficult for a larger power plant on these trucks, but is there no way to get a decent amount of traction in the back by just using the leafs?

There is a lot involved in making a RHD vehicle, the steering gear doesn't just transfer over to the other side, but you might be able to source one from Australia, but that will be expensive.

Also the wiper system is supposed to wipe the other way, but that likely doesn't matter as much.

If you are a good fabricator, then go for it, but in my experience, if you have to ask how to do something, then stick with the easy stuff.

There is also the issue of passing, since you are planning on converting over to an SR20DET, you likely will be passing folks, well it's not that easy to see past the truck/van/mini van in front of you sitting on the passenger side, I know this because I own 2 RHD vehicles.

Check out borys build in project Datsun. See what he is doing. Might help you out a lot.

Front and rears to coilovers. No one wants worn out king pins and leafs. especially with the power a sr puts out. I only have a L18 in my rig but its still enough to push it beyond what a stock 521 can handle going around a corner. especially if you hit a slight bump, which most times is why ive spun out.. One hell of a rush though, i love that shit

Mrbigtanker, I've tried searching that user and key word but I didn't find anything. What's his build about? Also, do you have a build thread on your fj20 swap? Is your truck awd?

No my truck is not AWD. And leafs are good enough. I was going to go 4 link and gold and diamonds and it's not worth it.coil overs up front done right though would be a big help
