KoHeartsGPA
The jury is in!! Running 91 octane is the same as 94 octane. NO pinging and it actually runs a little cooler, just like my buddy said it would! He works around gasoline products and said the 94 octane would make the engine run hotter, and it is true,...according to my set-up. Soooooo it wasn't my imagination.....ran 94 on last tank and motor ran hotter....I'll be damned....thanks for the input, i was already worrying.... 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Is this with a timing change or not? Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
I didn't touch anything, Mike, just filled up with 94, I've got couple gallons left, going to fill with 91 and look for change in temp... Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
That he talks to pattern makers or he makes an all Al L20B? An all aluminum L4. I can call up Lockheed Martin, and ask them about making a special lunar lander, anyone can call any company. But there is fantisy, and reality....... The dividing line is fully dependant on the requester's bank account. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Octane makes fuel; harder to ignite. It becomes less sensitive to heat and auto ignition. Thus you can increase your timing closer to the ideal point without pinging. That said it may already be at this point and adding more octane is just a waste. To bank roll R&D for an obscure and out of date head would be over the moon expensive. No one will buy one of the three dozen ones you make for $12,000 each. Needs twin cam and 4 valves... wait, they already have them. Quote Link to comment
Doctor510
Im running NGK plugs B6ES gapped at .041", stock electronic Hitachi dizzy, and timing is set at many trips around the block. WRONG plugs to be gapped at .041". You need the B8ES 11 or the BP6ES 11 OK if there is an R in the PN. The 11 series plus is specific for the wide gap, the ones you have are NOT. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Good point, but I would still stick with the B6ES. Don't go with an R (resistor) plug and definitely stay away from P (projected) plugs as they can make a pinging engine ping worse. Stick with the simple plugs. 1 Quote Link to comment
scooter
why not resistor plugs stoff? BR9ES is my plug of choice Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
9 is insanely cold and may be your choice but it's not the choice for an L20B 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
why not resistor plugs stoff? BR9ES is my plug of choice They are more effective in modern EFI systems or with certain electronic ignition systems. If they work well for you, then keep using them. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
Don't forget to get some better valve sprigs Quote Link to comment
scooter
i thought the non resistor plugs made radios buzz.. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Maybe if you listen to AM radio. Try them and find out. Quote Link to comment

Rhino13
I use b6es and have no buzzing on my radio for am/fm, CD or aux. Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
I use BP5ES with my single 48mm side draft, no pinging, strong and plugs are always pink... Quote Link to comment
scooter
Your plugs are pink? Farm gas? Mine are a funky green colour from the avgas dye. They also get lead deposits after a while. Getting back to the OP.... Is it running yet? Quote Link to comment
racerx
Maybe like rust color. Read that gas additives cause it to turn thar color Quote Link to comment
