DrvnDrvr
http://www.jtoutfitters.com/weber-carb-idle-solenoid-3236-dgev-3838-dges-p-4667.html Nice placement pic there Says: Cuts off fuel in your carb to prevent "dieseling" and it works great. Fits in both 32/36 DGEV and 38/38mm DGES carb, will not fit the DGV (manual choke). It is a tight fit in the 38/38. Replaces the primary jet and stop the fuel when power is cut. Hooks up to an ignition hot that is powered whenever the vehicle is running. I'm thinking I can use the power to the choke as the original cutoff power is no longer there. Am I correct? Seems pretty damn easy ....... 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I wouldn't connect to the choke heater. The choke relay only powers the choke heater when the engine is running. During start it's not on. The 720 has an idle cut power wire. It's the Red wire. Blue is choke heater.. 2 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
The red wire isn't there. I bought truck with the Weber on it. Most smog equipment, vacuum hoses, and extra wires have been removed. It diesels once in a while. Is there another nearby wire that would work? Maybe from the starter or coils? Or should I just run a fresh one from the fusebox? 1 Quote Link to comment
tr8er
Run an extra switch on the circuit. That's a great security system right there. Perplex any would be thief 2 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Even if the original choke wire is missing, if the carb connector is still there in the wiring harness, you can install a new one from there. 2 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
Any idea what color(s) that wire would be? Exiting the firewall? I found a wire in a 4 terminal plug with 3 wires by the dizzie that has power in the ignition on position and off in the ignition off. It is black with a brown stripe. The other wires are black with brown and larger brown wire with black. I'd like to think it is in the wiring harness the exits the firewall on the right side. I'd like to access as close to the carb to keep the engine compartment tight. Does that make any sense? Digital multimeter at the ready. 1 Quote Link to comment
tr8er
I can't see any reason to not use it. If it's hot with ignition on, not with ignition off, and it isn't being used... 2 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
The connector you are looking for is on the passenger side. The wiring from the carb choke will go to it. So will some other things. It's a round connector. The color can be found in a diagram. What year 720 is it? 1 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
Thanks tr8er, Spot On I'm just trying to figure out what wire that is when it exits the firewall. My engine compartment is clean and tight. Thought I could do it at the alt, starter, or batt but no go. The connector you are looking for is on the passenger side. The wiring from the carb choke will go to it. So will some other things. It's a round connector. The color can be found in a diagram. What year 720 is it? 80-86 like most 720s. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Clever. Since they made minor changes every year, specificity will get you the best help. 1 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
2/83 as per door vin tag. Underhood vin doesn't specify. Both are held with phillips screws. In all honesty, I don't know what I have. It's fun to drive! Quote Link to comment
lctmjw
Here's a photobucket link to the factory connector (I don't know yet how to post a picture directly): http://s36.photobucket.com/user/lctmjw12/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160723_155830_zps13eisobr.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 1 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
Thanks lctjw. I don't have any blue wires under my hood so I'll probably dig into the wiring harness to find a wire that has power with the key on. Bummer is that I recently repainted and sealed up my engine compartment. Poor planning on my part. FWIW Pierce Manifolds had the best price, 20 + 7.50 shipping. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
This is the wiring we are suggesting you find. 1 Quote Link to comment
DrvnDrvr
My truck doesn't have that yellow connector. The wire for the choke comes directly from the main wiring harness. Quote Link to comment
