nathan.kenney94
So I got gifted this truck by my uncle. I pulled the engine and head and found a little piece of metal in 2 different cylinders. It smashed the spark plugs but was wondering if you guys think it would be alright to just throw a headgasket on and go or rebuild. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
What does the head look like? Valve face damage? Probably will be fine if just what you see. Check that there are no more pieces waiting their turn. Did you block the timing chain so the tensioner didn't fall out??? Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
You didn't mention anything about the Fram, KING RAT......I'm shocked... Quote Link to comment
Draker
Spark plugs are pretty stout. If it wasn't that hard of an impact.. then ok. Otherwise you might be concerned with the rods being tweaked. If the head looks good and all the valves close all the way.. sure slap a gasket on and see what comes of it. 1 Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
What passed through the cylinders ? Can you tell by impact impressions ? I had a chunk of valve guide break off once, and it passed through 2 cylinders. Shows you how much reversion is going on in an engine. I had to replace one guide, and dress the valve seats. I highly suggest you pull the valves to see if they, or the seats have nick in them. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You didn't mention anything about the Fram, KING RAT......I'm shocked... No worries, I saw it right off. Well the air filter housings have two (at least) temp sensors. On for opening/closing the air valve on the snorkel to regulate the inlet air temp. The other is a hot idle compensator air bleed to relieve the over rich idle caused be high under hood temps. There is nothing between them and the open carb. You could check to see if they are damaged or missing anything. Maybe a carburetor part from the secondary side. Air bleed or something. Throttle or choke plate screw. 1 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Sometimes the butterfly screws come loose and off....then gets sucked in...if lucky spit out without hitting any moving parts...it's a toss up. Quote Link to comment
