superjesus
are there any spanish residents on here that can shed some light on the laws regarding car modification? my situation: a few months back i moved to spain and im planing on importing my datsun in the near future (currently its sitting in long term storage in the netherlands) the engine needs a rebuild so i want to go ahead a tackle that project myself and improve on it (different exhaust, carb, lowering different sized wheels etc) ive heard that all modifications made to cars need to be homologated and then pass the ITV (like the UKs MOT)..... so what does the homologation actually entail? does it mean all mods need to be made by a licensed mechanic or just inspected and taken note of? does it pretty much ban me from modding my own car and keeping it street legal? there is/was a huge debate concerning cars being fitted with tow bars yet i know theres a few e30 bmws running about with engines from newer models. so what gives? thanks in advance Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
"Homologation" basically means that the manufacturer has produced and offered for sale a production or limited production version of the modification in question. Generallly some minimum number of units must be produced before this modification is authorized for entry into the appropriate class of competition like SCCA sanctioned races. I'm sure equivalent European sanctioning bodies have a minimum number of production units for sanctioning. A very common production number is 300 units, but it varies. Quote Link to comment
