How do you separate an FSW560A Trans case?

Anybody got an idea on how to separate the transmission case on an FSW560A?  it is out of a 79-80 210.  We have removed the set screw detents from the center plate, the bolt that holds the main shift rod, speedo pinion, and passenger side spring and plunger, and tried to remove the tail housing.  We are now going to try to remove the front half.

is  this a bad idea or what we should have done from the start.....I know, get the manual...tried that through the search and it ended well, badly.

edt: yeah, we should've done that first...came right apart

Better check the engine tag the '79 should shave an FS5W60L which is a dogleg that year*. The '80 was an FS5W60A with standard shift pattern.

Detent balls do not have to come out. The shift rods are part of the adapter (center) plate and the front and rear aluminum cases just pull off over them.

On the '80 5 speed  take the switches and the speedometer pinion out, just in case. Remove the through bolts between the front and rear cases and the rear should pull off with some twisting. * Not sure if this will work on the dogleg.

The front has a three bolt front cover plate behind where the clutch would be. Remove this and there will be a C clip around the counter bearing that prevents the front case from coming forward and off. Remove it or them save and keep in order for assembly.

Thanks Mike, we got it through trial and error.  This one must be the one out of an '80 but gives us the experience for the '79 which is a dogleg.  So, just incase anyone is wondering....take the front case off first.
