datzenmike
Go to any auto glass shop and talk to a worker. Explain what you need, offer case of beer for 15min work. Quote Link to comment
S2KPEREZ
I've tried calling and looking around with no affordable luck. 200 seems like too much. Any solid leads would be awesome!! Quote Link to comment
5t341tH
I had a mobile guy come and replace my seal. cost 100 bucks Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Do you even have a Datsun? Fill out your profile. Tell them it isn't a 'glue' in type windshield. They don't know. Just rope and soapy water needed. Some of that price it too cover their risk. Quote Link to comment
Lozer
just get a helper and do it. Its so damn easy, I just did my front and rear windscreens with my wife ( first time ive done a windshield) cut out the old one with a razor, clean up the are, grab some paracord from home depot soak it in some soapy water for a min. put the new seal on the window, wrap the paracord around the first lip in the seal (i almost screwed up here as there are 2 divots in the seal and i used the one in the middle and had a hell of a time trying to get the seal around the metal bit) the paracord should have 2 ends hanging from the center bottom and be wraped around the entire window seal. place the glass in the hole and center it. have the helper gently press down on the center. start pulling the paracord so that the lip slides over the metal get both bottom edges in then work up the sides. ( at the corners i used a pick to GENTLY pull the lip) the top should come easy but have the helper gently pushing in around where your pulling in the para cord. after doing this I will never pay a glass guy for a datsun again. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Get a squirt bottle full of soapy water and spritz liberally on the rubber so it's slippery. I've installed a front 620 twice and one rear. Taken 3-4 out of trucks. 1 Quote Link to comment
qwik510
A couple things here. If your Datsun has a bad seal, there is a likelihood that there will be some rust hiding under the old seal. So when you pull the glass, be prepared to repair the rust. If you have the stainless window trim and plan to keep it, I'd recommend getting a professional. The trim is very flimsy and will bend easily. It takes patience and experience to get it right. I had the windshield replaced in my 510 this past spring. I found a local guy who has been installing glass for 40 years. He came out, pulled the old glass and seal and then came back a few days later to do the install. This gave me time to fix the small rust area we found in the bottom corner of the frame. He did a great job. Cost was $180 for 2 trips and the install. 2 Quote Link to comment
2wheel-lee
Some of that price it too cover their risk. That's the key point right there behind the cost. If I were a glass guy, and I knew that the glass may have limited availability, and I knew that you may hold me accountable if something strange were to happen and the glass is damaged, I wouldn't be cheap in my pricing. S2KPEREZ
Yes I do have a Datsun 1972 4door Glass is fairly easy to get and the seals are cal style (no metal insert) all can be found local in SoCal. Is it really that easy I can do it myself?? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes, take your time. You need to finesse not force. Pick a very warm day so rubber is pliant. Quote Link to comment
sebpv
While we're in the same subject; I bought the seals from ebay in cali I think. I wanna say Datsunsocal or something. Anyway do you believe I will require another liquid sealant before installing the windshield and seal? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
IIRC..... install first. Any leaks can be found with garden hose and sealer injected under the gasket. I think it was mentioned that rust holes may be under the old gasket. These will need to be sealed first. Quote Link to comment

Condo many times to that installer1 The front window rubber with the cut outs for the Chrome insert has got to be a Not Longer Available item! Quote Link to comment
