FunkyFresh520
When i go for a drive and turn off my truck (datsun 520) it sounds like it wants to keep going, but it struggles to turn off. I know its a simple problem but is it the carburator or timing ?? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Normal. Let the clutch up a little when turning off. You'll end up creating a habit of using engine pressure to turn your car off. Something very well could be out of adjustment. How bad is it? This is more commonly spoken about with the L motors, open chambered heads. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Run on, or dieseling is caused or aggravated by the following... Engine running too hot Too hot a heat range spark plug Too high a compression Too low a gas octane rating Choke stuck on Carb flooding Idle cut solenoid not working Idle speed set too high. Idle mixture set too rich Not a cure for one of the above causes but learn to hold brake on, put in 4th gear, let clutch up enough to load the engine down and then turn ignition off... engine will stall immediately. When fully stopped release the clutch fully. 2 Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
a idle cut off selinoid is whats needed but the weber 32/36 DGEV-IC is the one to get but not worth buy a whol new carb just for the selinoid option. (It has a bigger idle jet holder) 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
Funky Fresh 520, Again what's your RPM at Idle and timing? should be a simple fix but if you don't know then you will always shut off car in gear. Quote Link to comment

racerx
Buy a timing light w rpm reading not that expensive, they are a must have when owning a car, specially ours, and u want to learn and save money. Bought a dial type of timing at a garage sale for 10 bucks.. Quote Link to comment

Dieseling can be a sign of other problems and they can be fixed. Quote Link to comment
