Jesse1843
My head gasket blew between cylinders 3 and 4. The compression of the other 2 are low as well. It has 220k miles and it's all original. If I replace the head gasket would it help the low compression? And my last question is, what are the the part needed to replace the gasket the cheapest way possible? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
STOP!!!! If you have not started removing the head yet, find out how to block the timing chain tensioner from falling out. If you fail to properly secure it, this will add 4-6 hours of extra work and gaskets to correct the mistake. All you need is a head gasket about $20-$25 at NAPA. With help the head and the intake manifold and carb can be lifted off as a single unit. The exhaust manifold can just be unbolted and left in the truck. This assumes nothing is broken or gets broken when unbolting everything. It also assumes that the head is not warped and is the cause of the blown gasket in the first case. The head gasket will not improve the compression on the other two cylinders. Quote Link to comment
racerx
Get a good head gasket set from a Nissan dealer. May want to consider changing the timing chain. Know the sequence of torqueing it down and get specs. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
depends on doing a whole front cover then yes change the chain and the tensioners. and slack side guide. If not changing anything else best to get the timming chain wedge for a Z series nissan motor. Amazon might have this. I know they have the L series datsun one but there is a Z series one also. Best to do the whole front cover but its alot more work olddatsuns.com has my L series vid in the tech section on youtube. So you have to set it set up break the bolts loose thne put motor on TDC and take apart Quote Link to comment
