1979 Datsun 620 choke thermostat

Hello Ratsun, My name is Erick and I've had my Datsun 620 since November and it's been extremely reliable by just doing regular maintenance on it, until yesterday. I took it to school Yesterday and it drove fine the whole way home back. About an hour later, I was going to run some errands but the truck wouldn't start over (just kept cranking). So I gave it a little gas and it started briefly (like a second or two). Ever since this incident, the truck has been having a high idle speed, and it just won't go down. After a bit of under-hood investigating, I started playing with the choke thermostat and found out the the high idle cam mechanism isn't engaging? (when the engine is cold I step on the throttle and notice that the carb plate won't fully close like its supposed to. My question is, does the fast cam idle have a spring on it beside the one on the inside of the chocke thermostat? or how does it engage when you step on the throttle? Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you, Erick
