NC280z
Good evening all, I've got a small leak at my rear main on my '75 280z, and I'm getting ready to install a new seal and Fel-Pro repair sleeve and had a few questions for the forum. I've researched everywhere and seen different methods on installing the repair sleeve, and just want to see what methods everyone else has used on their vehicles. For instance, what type of threadlocker or sealant should I apply to the sleeve, and what is the easiest method for installing the sleeve that won't damage it? The instructions that came with the sleeve don't mention using a sealant, but most everywhere else does. Thanks for your time and advice! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They go on dry and tap into place. The best thing is something the same diameter so that it starts and goes on evenly. You could smear a very small amount of sealer around the opening so that the outer surface of the seal is against it. Do not get on the crankshaft surface and for pity's sake grease the seal lips where it rides against the crankshaft before installing so it does not start up dry. Quote Link to comment
