DAK
How do I wire in a ballast resister into the coil of my 620 (L20B motor). My L20B has ignition points, does that mean it is a 1975-19777? Having trouble determining year of motor. Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
should have a ballast next to the coil already if its a point ignition. olddatsuns.com the tech section or somewhere had drawing for this. Its simple. look at thread 73 620 AS MY FIRST he has photos. If you dont know then dont fuck with it. How does it run now? Does it run give us a clue we not mind readers on what proplem is. 2 Quote Link to comment
Doctor510
Find a copy of the FSM for those years. Engine size is not the determining factor, pretty much the same for, all early Datsun stuff, 521, 510 z cars. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Where in Idaho are you? Plenty of great Datsun people there that can help you out if you end up in a bind. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Only vehicles from '77 and earlier have a ballast resistor. Tell us more of what you are trying to do. You may not need to do anything. 2 Quote Link to comment
abbylind
Ive got a 77 620 with the HEI...but I have a ballast resistor on the coil....why? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Because the coil is likely a points coil. Without the ballast added to drop the voltage, the HEI will draw so much current through it, it will fry it. It will have the same output as points... just without them. If you want more output just get a '78 and up coil. It's designed to run on the full 12 volts. 1 Quote Link to comment
abbylind
Threw in a new coil...noticable difference! 1 Quote Link to comment
