Yes, you really need to find new bushings and keep the tension rods on your truck. datzenmike Posted May 22, 2016 Report Share Posted May 22, 2016 In simple terms the lower control arm just sticks out with the tire on the end. It's not well supported. When the tire hits an obstruction or you jam on the brakes it will have a tendency to want to move to the rear. The tension rod forms a very strong and stable triangle consisting of the frame, lower control arm and the tension rod. The tension rod holds the lower control arm in place but allows it to move up and down. Quote Link to comment
