thinking of buying those clip in axle stubs an a VLSD unless maybe someone has a good r160 CLSD laying around?  lol

need to research the ratios and what cars they come in. Would make it a lot easier down the road to swap out if I had to.

decisions, decisions

For all around d performance go 3.90, for better op end go 3.7, for good god damn this thing is quick! Go 4.11, for i think we just broke the sound barrier getting to 30 go with 4.375. I'm running stock 3.90 and it will pull to 120 and still eat up and auto x course.

I just started searching  for what ratios came in what make/model car on the newer 160's.  not sure if Im ready to bit the bullet and spend the $600 on the stubs!!! than find the right "used" LSD

I would say your 4.11 or 4.375. I have 3.90's and run about 3k-3200 at 70.

Thanks for all your tips. I dropped out the rear yesterday, hopefully get it back Monday.

Question of the hour is to I bring to a different t shop to have it checked? Not sure about the first place I took it too..:(.

So while I'm waiting for my rear to return, I found a nice rear seat and also brought a like new "manual" steering column cover. Trying to clean her up a bit...

As far as the 4point seat belts, I think for everyday driving, car shows/meets and since I want to have my family with me to enjoy these events, I've removed the over the rear seat Mounts. So now the front is just a lap belt, but when I go to a track, I'll remove the rear seats and hook back up the shoulder straps.

Unless I find stock 3point belts.... Idk.

What's up with yours now

Cars been down for 2/3 weeks, started after I had my shop change out the bearings. It was great but that only lasted for a week. Then out of no where, crazy whining/howling when cruising and a little less during acceleration. since my first shop didn't set it up or even check the black lash the correct way, I went to a rear end specialist. They said no worries, he'll fix it up in a few days, done these before and i'll be ready to rock.

he took it a part, called and said that there was parts in there that shouldn't be, none of the gears where set up/spaced rt,  messed up a bearing while doing some work but he would take care of it.  so 10-12 days later, he ran out of shims to set up the gears correctly and it won't turn now. Wants Me to get a new pinion bearing, collar, seal and pinion nut. I also gave him my spare r160 "clip in axle" to use for parts to make one good one out of the 2.  waiting for the parts (this coming Tuesday)   I already wasted $$ the first time around and still need to pay for what ever comes out of this mess.

I want to just buy a lsd set up for someone and just put it in.

I found a 93 turbo legacy, anyone know if the axle stubs are the Bolt in type?

List I'm looking at says 90-94 are bolt-on.

The real difference seems to be if it says LSD on the tag or VLSD. I think the later VLSD is the clip in style, and if it just says LSD it's bolt on?

I try to stick to the 80s cars because I know those are bolt in...

  • 2 weeks later...

These came yesterday!!! Waited 10weeks!

Not sure if I'm going to just run them as is and wait till winter to refurbish them. They look pretty good but not perfect. The barrels are nice and shiny, just some light surface scratches but the centers are a little oxidized. Was thinking powdered coating the centers the same purple as the engine bay goodies... First I need to find some tires....

Not sure if I should get 185/55's all around or 195/60's. Really would be nice to have the same tire on all four corners but choices are limited in the 14".

New front bearings and hub installed with all proper hardware an correct install precedure!

Tires ordered for the new wheels, went with falken 595's 190/60's for rear and 185/55 up front.

Did a quick polish to one wheel with white diamond polish and sealer. Came out better than I thought just doing it by hand. The wheel actually matches or is a little "newer" looking than the look of the car being a little beat up, patina and all.

I might just do the other three and call it a day.

I'll post some before and after later today or tomorrow. Tires should be here Wednesday!!

Than I'll adjust the ride height before i get her a fresh alignment.

Future plans are

Undercoat within the next couple weeks

Then hopefully this fall/winter I'll change out all the rubber seals. Doors/Windows/trunk when I get her wet sanded and clear coated.
