Sierra
Has anyone done a Carb to EFI on a A Series engine? I am contemplating on doing this. I got a system coming from Australia. Any input and/or positive feedback would be greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
Draker
A series had a rare efi manifold. If you have the mani and other electrical bits, I wouldn't think it'd be that hard. very similar to the L18 efi setups I'm sure. Quote Link to comment

Sierra
It pop-up on ebay. I was the only one that placed a bid so I won the auction. Here are some of the pictures that the seller post on ebay. Quote Link to comment
Draker
You'll need an injectors, ecu, harness, and maf Did it come with it? I mean.... this is an important part to have for sure. But you'll need an ecu and maf for an engine approximately 1.2 liters. Quote Link to comment

Sierra
@ Draker, It comes with the intake and exhaust manifold. I know it needs new injectors and that the fuel rail was repaired. What do you mean by "maf"? I am also under the impression that, I can get a ecu fairly easy. Am I correct? @ jrock4224 I think the one you mention was a different one. I saw that one too but the price on that one went way out of my budget. here is a picture of the exhaust Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
MAF = mass air flow sensor. Tells ecu how much air is going in to the motor, so it can inject the fuel correctly. It is very likely you could use L or Z series parts to make up the missing pieces. The A series fuel injection was used on some later fork lifts as well, so you might be able to get some parts that way Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This is an old technology very rudimentary EFI from Datsun. Probably a Bosch batch fire set up. However you can use this as the heart of a much newer updated EFI. You need injectors, MAF, high pressure fuel pump and regulator, O2 sensor, air regulator valve, A.I.S. unit. (I see a throttle valve switch) Might be better to get a Maga Squirt and be done with it. Very programmable with a lap top. 1 Quote Link to comment

Shipping heavy stuff from/to oz is expensive. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Has the bung for the O2 sender but most people delete the EGR so that hole could also be used. Quote Link to comment
Sierra
Sounds like I am way over my head with this swap, but I love a challenge. I will continue to gather information. I like the idea of using the "bones" of the EFI system and creating something more up to date. Thanks everyone for the input. Quote Link to comment
tboe0
Why cant I find things like that on Ebay?! :frantics: Quote Link to comment

A stand alone system like MegaSquirt' will allow you to tune and understand how it all works. The stock one is just a mystery. If something goes wrong all you can do is start replacing parts at random. EFI are great starters when cold, good mileage and performance (which is hard to do) hell, it will run upside down even. B210ratsun
Good suggestion Mike. MegaSquirt would be the way to go for sure! Injectors, call deatschwerks tell them your scenario and they may be able to suggest an injector size. I think one main hurdle would be the fitment of new injectors. Quote Link to comment
Tolkmod
Seriously cool... even though I'll be swapping out my A13 for a L20b it's still cool... I'm subbed and looking forward to seeing this progress!! And don't forget, LOTS OF PICS MAN!!! Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
i will take that ex mani though Quote Link to comment
Sierra
Got my inlet manifold and other goodies today. Exhaust comes later. It looks like the previous owner gave up on the project. it looks like he was trying different wire harness. Here are some shots of the stuff I got. Quote Link to comment
