Interchangeable parts ? What's / What's not

Hey everyone

I'm in need of some words from the gurus or the old dogs around here to get a better idea on that is interchangeable and whats not, between the B210/120Y and the other Datsuns.

There is alot of good things over on http://datsun1200.com/modules/news/'s wiki on what can go into a 1200 from other sun's, but what about ours?

I have heard and read about alot of things, some like the 280ZX strut ect.

But what about the 510? Or any of the other?

A'm i wrong if I remember that I saw/read somewhere that alot of the 510 steering parts are the same?

The thing that got me thinking was that, if it would fit, could use some of TTT's good stuff for the 510, https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/510, especially the steering links for the front, along with a 28ZX strut swap and TTT brake upgrade.

All this is waaaaaay down the path for my build, and is only a "some day" or "when" and if... i get the money to do that kinda thing, but it would be über cool down the road!

Take care, Toby

A lot of what works and what doesn't just take some common sense.

The L/Z motors have lot of stuff that interchanges.

Lots of steering suspension stuff fits. Some bolt-in. Some require finese.

Some body panels/parts fit between models. But not many.

Most of this stuff is covered well through the forums. Probably not easily found though.

Knowledge comes from experience. Keep reading and find the discoveries others have made.

if you don't mind shipping from down under I found an awesome site that has a lot of 120y/b210 aftermarket upgrades.

If i had money I'd keep these guys busy for sure lol

http://www.maddat.com.au/

Seriously sweet looking stuff on their site, looks like some good quality as well.

As far as body parts, I've found that (from my own searching) that from the front doors back there are some differences on different models with the b210, for example the front doors from any 74 to 79 4 door b210 are all interchangeable, but the doors from the 2 door and coupe are not as they're slightly longer.   The Dash is pretty much an exact copy as well, so a lot of those parts (maybe not the instrument panel) are good as well.

But that's just from my first hand experience.

Hope that helps, and Yeah i'd be interested in a lot of these as well.

OH!  One more thing, If you have the 280zx hubs/rotors and calipers https://technotoytuning.com/ will sell you the correct coil over conversions that will fit in, as well as the camber plates.  The guy told me with the camber plates it's pretty much a bolt in process.  If you want to go fancy and larger you can buy their hub/rotor/caliper packages as well.

flatcat, yeah of cause it does, but my experience is limithed and there is not alot of Datsun's in and around Denmark... Thats why I ask for a definit answer to stuff that is known to be interchangeable.

I have read alot, and yes, the info is scattered all out the forum, that's why I ask, to get some of it collected.

Tolkmod, I know maddat ;) they have some amazing stuff but you have to pay the price to get it ;) I feel that T3's prices are better and their stuff looks just as good as maddat! I'm sourcing the 280zx hubs/roters/strut/ect, and will be buying the weldon coilover for them along with camber plates! They look SO good :-P Might also get the big brake kit if I have the $$$.. would be Maaaaaaad!

Very late in the PL510 production the ball joint size changed and was continued into the 610/710 and on.

The PL510 has a smaller wheel bearing and spindle to match. The 610 and up have the larger bearing. I just recently swapped a '74 710 wheel bearing into my '84 Maxima strut.... perfect fit!

A PL510 engine crossmember will fit the B-210 and allow an L engine swap to fit. (I get it right this time gato?)

Later A10 (HL510 here) steering boxes are a good replacement for the PL510. I think the B-210 steering box will also work (maybe) BUT if not the internal parts, many no longer available, will swap.

Cant give any info on the 1200/120Y but FWIW for the 1600 (510) off the top of my head:

1600, 180B, 200B struts interchangeable.

Various OEM wheels swap (obviously)

Twin piston 240K calipers fit on some struts as do other combos i.e. 200B etc.

1600/180B control arms interchange.

R160, R180, R200 diffs swap into the rear x-member (R200 needs a different moustache bar).

L16, L18 and L20 engines interchange with little fuss (need to swap sump and oil pickup on the L18 and L20).  Also, as they have longer stroke, the L18 and L20 sit taller in the bay.

Bluebird, Stanza, 200B, 180B 240Z, 260Z gearboxes swap around with minimal grief.  Need different length tailshaft and gearbox mounts for some conversions.

Theirs heaps more that I cant think of ATM.

Negative the L16/18 block from crank center line to deck is 207.85mm. The L20B/Z20/Z22 are 227.45mm or just over 2 cm taller. The Z24 and KA blocks are 247.45mm or 4cm taller than the L16/18

That makes sense. All the L-series motors between are interchangeable.

I own a 76' B210/120Y 2door, which have a A12. As this is the less power-full (hardly have any power -__, ie. im going to supercharge it and eventual do a swap) I wonder if the parts from the other B210 models fit it? B210 or 1600(510) still same chassi to my understanding(?), so would they change steering parts arms links ect. when going up to the bigger models?

It is a "budget" or cheap car, so I would think that mass production of the same parts to all models would be the easiest thing to do, tho I may not be right, just a thought...

^^^^^^^Correct.  A popular swap down here.

Is there a stamp on the PL510 crossmember that I should be looking for?  or a quick way to tell it apart from the other ones?

Yes, Mike. Right this time.

RW...when doing motor swaps, it's not the parts from engine that need replacement, it's the models pan and oil pickup that need to be used.

Example: L20b from a 620 going into a 510. 510 pan and pickup need to be used.

Example: L18 from a 610 getting used to place into a 521. Need to use 521's pan and pickup.
