You could try the cork.. just make sure it's not too thick.

 

Last resort, you could apply a very thin, and I mean thin coat of RTV to the making surfaces. Shouldn't need it.. but if you are having issues with it sealing.. might be worth a shot. Just makes it a pain in the ass the next time you have to open it and re-seal it.

 

If it were me, I'd try a few different gasket materials until you find one that works. RTV would be last resort.

If you go to oreilly auto they sell a multi pack of different gasket papers for like $8. Might be worth the effort to get that. Then you have a variety of options to work your way through.
