WesleyKC
So I was browsing craigslist and came across a 82 Datsun 2WD King-Cab pickup for $700 (OBO) and got interested in it. Called the guy and met up with him to check the truck out. It's black with a white canopy on the back. The interior is pretty clean except the left speaker is missing. Turned the key and it fired up right away (Damn quiet too. Could barely hear it) . Shifts through all the gears just fine. The only problems it has are: Speedometer quit working (Isn't a huge issue. I can just use a GPS and use that as the speedometer) Tires are low (It's been sitting for a couple months) On start up it did spit out a little bit of white smoke. Could be burning a little bit of oil but a few seconds later it cleared up and was clean after. Besides all that I think this is a steal. He replaced the fuel pump, Alternator and such. The reason he is selling it is because it belonged to his son and his son wrecked his truck. So he is using that as payment to fix his truck. I am new to the whole Datsun and the whole driving thing (I'm 17 and just now driving) I've been around cars for awhile and even spent some of my time working on my girlfriends car. My question is should I bite the hook and get it? It's the best deal in my area and any other vehicle here is too expensive or too beat up. Also If I were get the truck (Probably will this weekend) What are some things I need to do? I know I should do a standard tune up and clean the whole carb. Any maintenance or something to keep up with besides the regular oil change and checking fluids? What else would you guys recommend for it? I do want to add a small lift to it and get tires a little bit bigger. Maybe a different Carburetor to add a little bit more power. I want to get a whole new exhaust system but nothing that sounds like a shit show Honda. We have too many in my town  Any performance mods also? I can't hoon around with 86hp B) 1 Quote Link to comment

Rick-rat
Need to see some pics, since it is not a 4WD, the rule here seems to be to lower it and put some Titan rims on it, raising is out of the question  welcome to Ratsun 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Excuse me? You posted at 10 AM but it won't show on the forum until I approved it about 5:30 PM. By then it's fallen back a page or more and can easily be overlooked. I didn't have time to welcome you to the forum or answer your questions as I was going out to supper so I posted TTT .... To The Top which brings your topic to the top of the forum board so it will be noticed easier..... and here we are. 1/ Most likely the speedometer cable. They still sell them for under $20. Inspect it for damage under the vehicle. 2/ Low tires.... put air in them. If tread is low get new ones. 3/ White smoke or just condensation? Most carburetor vehicles 'steam' when started cold. This is normal condensation. It goes away as it warms up. Also it evaporates into the air and disappears. Smoke on the other hand just thins out and hangs around much longer. Oil smoke is bluish. 1 Quote Link to comment

Yeah I thought it may have been that or the pinion gear. The tires have good tread on them too. Its just been sitting for about 4 months with the guy starting it up to make sure it runs. 1 Quote Link to comment

Too many people slam their cars and add way too much camber to their rides in my town... Itsa trend in my town I'd rather not be apart of. I'd rather have it lifted a little. A lot of my friends go trail riding in their trucks. They rarely switch to 4x4 so I can most likely get away with it being just RWD... 1 Quote Link to comment
WesleyKC
I'll go to the post and get the pictures. If I go see the truck again I'll take some of it. It does look like I'll be getting it. 1 Quote Link to comment
WesleyKC
Here's the pictures I pulled from the Craiglist post. I'll try to get more of the engine bay, interior, and all around shots. Btw forgot to mention the white canopy comes with it :) http://imgur.com/a/jfSOB 1 Quote Link to comment
