Proper location for front drum springs and brake shoe orientation.

I need help figuring out how these shoes should be oriented.  One end is tapered, and one end has two holes while the other has one.  This is the passenger side.  I installed these in the way that seemed right, but in researching on the forum I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere.  The leading pad on (on the right) is angled higher than the trailing shoe.  Does all this seem correct?  

 

Also, does the orange spring go on top or bottom?  The yellow spring is a bit beefier, but I think that on the rears the stronger spring is on the bottom.  Is it the same up front?

I have pulled my hair out researching this. There are leading and trailing shoes depending on turning direction. Everyone has a rule about this but it is the opposite if the brake cylinder is at the bottom. No one ever says if at the bottom or if at the top..... do this. Hell some wheel cylinders are to the side, some have double cylinders. No one rule about leading and trailing shoes seems to exist.
 
My 620 FSM happens to show the right front (passenger side) shoes opposite to what you have. The right side in the picture above is removed, turned upside down and installed. The lining is farther away from thw wheel cylinder at the top and closer to the adjuster on the bottom. The left side is the same needs to be flipped with the lining closer to the cylinder and farther away from the adjuster on the bottom. This is for a wheel turning clockwise.
 

I think it safe to say that the side of wheel cylinder that pushes in the direction of rotation has the leading shoe. This shoe should have the brake lining material farthest from the wheel cylinder. The opposite shoe will be the trailing shoe and the lining material closer to the wheel cylinder.

 

710. Wheel cylinder at bottom, rotation clockwise. Leading shoe is to the left and lining farthese fro cylinder.

I installed this side according to what I found on the driver side, but I'm afraid that the previous owner, who was a half-wit, did the last install and possibly/probably got it wrong.

Well, according to what you've said it would appear that I do indeed have them backward. Thanks!

 

Any thought on the springs? Should I keep the more robust spring (yellow) on the top? What about the rears? The bigger spring on the rear is white and I have it on bottom.

I can only say I believe it to be correct. Make sure you do the other side the same... in other words it will look exactly the same as this side.

 

 

You should find that the brakes work better going forward than backing up.

I've got my 521 with big spring on top and smaller on bottom with the even smaller helper spring. I question whether my shoes are on correct at times though
